Best cammo?
I was just wondering which cammo patterns you all use for early fall, then winter or late season, especially those of you that hunt hradwoods in the midwest?I just got a catalogue from "Day One "cammo company and saw many patterns. Is the ASAT pattern good? How about materials that keep keep you quiet and warm late season.Do any of you use their fleece product?Every year it takes me allmost till the last couple of weeks to figure out how to dress to hunt.I have only been doing this over25 years,I should know by now but I'm a slow learn:DI like my fleece stuff because it's quiet, but I need something more in the cold season thats quiet, warm and bowhunter friendly.Thank's for any replies.

RE: Best cammo?
I just bought a set of the ASAT 3-D suit or whatever it is called. I think it just about perfect for what I needed becasue I have plenty of warm clothing that I can wear under it when the weather turns frosty (although todays weather might have sent me packign awful fast) and in the early season I can wear it with just a shirt some long pants underneath it on a warm October day and jsut layer anything in between. The guys at ASAT where great when I ordered direct from them and we have even had a couple follow up e-mails. If you want a wamer suit, and not the coverall type suit they are makign a waterproof insulated parka and bibs now.. That and I think their product line will be expanding in the near future to more ASAT patteren accessories and the like.
I also have some Brown Deception from Predator that I like a lot too. Don't know how it is going to work but a did use it in the woods the other day (when it was warm) and I think I blended pretty well with the background I had. |
RE: Best cammo?
drstalker,
I swear by PREDATOR. I dont own any but I hunt with guys that do. I witnessed one guy WALK to a buck within 20 yards wearing this camo. The buck only bolted when he drew. The buck had this look on his face like "what is that? Oh, hes gonna get me" and off he went. But my friend walked up on him with the deer looking at him the whole time. |

RE: Best cammo?
If I only used one camo it would be Predator, perhaps ASAT(never saw any in person), or Cabela's Outfitter camo. Once in a treestand I like Realtree Hardwoods, or Predator Fall Gray, but while in a tree I don't think the camo makes much difference. I find camo to be more necessary while going and coming, thats why I prefer a more open pattern that blends in better with brush, fields, and weeds. Stand back 20 yards or more and really look at Mossy Oak, Realtree, etc. They look like a dark blob.

RE: Best cammo?
I know this is an old thread, but it came up when I was searching posts for ASAT.
I was at the Harrisburg sports/outdoor show and recieved a full ASAT 3-D Leafy suit (for free - thanks to some good people);). The suit looks really nice, and I've heard nothing but good things about it from people on this board and at the sportsman show. I'll use it in the spring for turkeys, and I'll see how it does compared to the Advantage Timber I've been using. |
RE: Best cammo?
Whatever I have laying around. I have killed deer wearing it all from Treebark, to Realtree, to Mossyoak, to ASAT, and the list goes on. In early season I typically wear a green pattern. Then darker as the leaves fall. IMHO, it doesn't make a damn what you wear, just be still and get hidden and you can kill a deer.

RE: Best cammo?
Over the yrs I've used about all of it, now I usually wear green or brown flannel type patterns for Elk and Deer.
I really believe that scent has alot more to do than camo. I break up my face with charcol and use skunk scent as a cover, best i've found yet.:D:D:D:D |
RE: Best cammo?
I wore sticks and limbs WHITES all year and got dam close to deer on multiple occasions(within 5yrds), on the ground too. IMO it's all about being still and being ready to make the shot.

RE: Best cammo?
I vote for ASAT. I am buying the 3D leafy suit this summer.

RE: Best cammo?
Another ASAT wearing hunter here, I've worn them all and ASAT by far is superior....experience has dictated that while wearing ASAT, I've gotten closer to game while still hunting, seen more game and closer encounters with turkeys, spring and fall, and can get away with more movement while bowhunting aloft, compared to all other camo's I've worn and the list is long. I wouldn't wear it if it didn't do what they claim or what I claim it does for me......simply put, it makes more invisible to game than any camo out there.....

RE: Best cammo?
If you can still find it I would suggest Realtree Xtra Gray as an excellent late season pattern. Both the combination of brown, tan and black and the specific color distribution of the pattern itself make it a very effective pattern once the leaves are on the ground.

RE: Best cammo?
Another vote for Predator I have yet to find any camo pattern that works as well in the areas I hunt in Saskatchewan. The fall grey is simply dynamo come october on the ground where I hunt a lot of small popular and willow runs. In the pines or with lots of green I still favour the old Spring Green pattern.
