Canada, still a big buck mecca???

Back in the day, Canada seemed to be THE spot to go for trophy whitetail. Every magazine out ranted and raved over Canada. It seems I have heard very little about our northern brothers over the last few years. The Mid-West of the US has taken over as top dog for trophy whitetail hunting. Perhaps it is the low deer density per sq. mile in Canada? I have several friends that have hunted their and they all killed very big bucks, but they would only see 1 or 2 deer per day if lucky. Maybe the sheer lack of deer sighting have led people away? Any thoughts or comments?

if you don't mind hunting over bait in sask. you'll see around 6 to 12 deer from daylight til dark.but 2 years ago i went on a bowhunt in manitoba didn't see 10 deer all week thats including riding around at night.i prefer bowhunting in illinois for a couple of weeks a year.

DC, take it from someone who lives in a great deer hunting area...
north of the border is where the real bruisers are. If it were possible,
which it's not with all the varibles for me, I would give one of my
nu!$ to bowhunt in Canada every fall! There are several canadians
on a couple of the boards I frequent and my mouth just drops open
at the class of bucks they seem to have up there.

Personally, I think it has mainly to do with hunter pressure. There
are bucks up there that only see a human a few times in there
lives, thus upping their chances of maturing. Here, it's like a circus. Constant building and development going on meaning less habitat for deer, and hunters everywhere. Heck, the whole country
knew about the Luvsten Buck before he was even shot. I think most hunters want/need to see a lot of deer, let's face it, it makes the hunt more enjoyable. In Canada this is probably NOT going to happen, but that sure doesn't mean it isn't great hunting....quite the opposite
IMO;).

I live in Saskatchewan,Canada and man I tell you the big boys are here when we don't have a buck under 160 on our walls with the biggest being 180 class. you just have to know where to go and we do our main hunting partner is a farmer and owns a bunch of land so its prviate to us and without any hunting pressure the big boys use it as a safe haven. one section of land surrounds a section of wildlife habitat land and its a big buck hotel, last season during the rut we called out a huge 4x4 not alot of points but he was tall and so wide that we could of made arms for a love seat out of his rack. The only problem he is that the rut here doesn't start until November and 90% of the time we have a foot of snow and 20below celcius temps which make it hard to bow hunt.

but 2 years ago i went on a bowhunt in manitoba didn't see 10 deer all week thats including riding around at night
hunted several years in manitoba and loved it we hunted on the man/sas border at russell manitoba, saw many great deer, we were limited to archery only and i never took a shot, could have killed several smaller 115-130" but was looking for 160+ and they were ther just not within bow range, with a m/l'er or rifle my hunts would have been over the second day every year, i would see from 5-25 deer in a day with several being good bucks..

i'd hunt up there every year if i could afford it
ain't it the truth, we hunted 6 or seven square miles and never saw another hunter, talk about light pressure

The only problem he is that the rut here doesn't start until November and 90% of the time we have a foot of snow and 20below celcius temps which make it hard to bow hunt.
boy i heard that, and i never thought i'd have those kind of problems pulling my bow
