Proper Shooting Form
 

can anybody tell me the proper shooting form when shooting a bow? or post a link? i have never even considered proper form before and have always just shot how i felt most comfortable. any help is appreciated. if it matters i shoot with a release

do a search on Google for it. it shows the possible stances, where to anchor...ect. But if you already shoot fine, then if it ain't broke don't fix it, kind of deal. As long as you have a consistant anchor point you should be fine.

I dont think there is one set "form" or "stance" that works for all the pepole all the time . While some are vary biased in this respect , example , "you have to shoot like Dave Cousins shoots" . You may emulate his form and it may be totaly wrong for you . We are all diferant shapes and sizes , form and style of shooting will vary accordingly . While we would all like to get the results Dave getts , I dont think we can do so by trying to copy his form . Sure there are some common mistakes made , overbowing , and overdrawing on length , which are realy machanical , but effect form . I think underdrawing on length is worst than overdrawing , but alot of times the first thing out of a socalled coaches mouth is , " you need to short'n you draw length to get your form right "

I agree with ijimmy. There are the basics that will get you on the right track and then there are small tweeks in position that fit your body structure. When you spend some quality practice time, you'll find that there are subtle changes in position that feel better and produce better results. Check with your local pro shop or archery supplies store for a club or pro shop that will help you with the basics. Bad form habits are hard to break. It's best if you have someone experienced in your style of shooting assist you to get started with good basic instruction and matched equipment. Good Luck and welcome to the sport.:D
