RE: After the Shot. Tips for the upcoming seasons.

Great post so far!!

This is a great tip that I started about 10 yrs ago. I cut clumps of hair out of a deer I shot. I took clumps from all over the body, neck, brisket , belly, legs, spine, shoulders etc and put them in labeled ziplock bags. Since then I have made it a point to collect hair from every kill I have made, looking for both entry and exit hair when possible. I have also saved these and labeled them according to where the hit actually was, noting angle and deer position.

This "library" of hair can be a great aid when a marginal shot occurs.

Rack that is highly unusual, very interesting and a great idea at the same time. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Something else I thought of and I can't believe no one mentioned it. When all blood trails, skuffed leaves/dirt and remaining sign fades away and your on your last guess, scour all creeks/streams in the area. When a deer runs a long ways, looses alot of blood, or is gut shot they will have the tendency to seek out water. I've found several deer the following morn in creek bottoms.
