My Summit Stand Project

I used the Christmas vacation I get from work to do a little painting of my Summit Cobra X4 stand. I decided to try to throw a Predator type pattern on it.

What do you guys think?

Muzzyman!

Your stand look's absolutely awsome ,now did you sand it down and primer it ? and what type of paint did you use on it ? hopefully it doesn't peel or chip off too easy .

Please let me know .I'll be buying a new Summit this winter and I'd like to try what you have done to your own stand ,I think it look's great.

Very very nice. Excelent job.

Did you air brush it or tape it off for different layers or something else?

You can't show us all these pictures and not tell us how you did it.;)

Hey nice stand. I wonder were you got the cam to take those pics? That stand looks even better now than it did when I saw it in person bud. It will look nice with your new Allegiance. It wouldn't have matched that ugly stepchild you call a Hoyt. Welcome to the Darkside!!!

Thanks fella's. It did take me some time, but I think it was worth it.

Here is what I did. Walmart sells some Krylon paint that is specifically for this type of thing. Its called Ultra Flat and they have it in a four different colors. Brown, tan, olive drab and black.

I masked off the big shapes, cut them to shapes with a razorblade and newspapered it up and shot all of the big spots with brown, olive drab and the tan in various areas. I did scuff each area to get a better stick.

As for the limbs, my original plan was to mask them too and shoot them, but that quickly went south as it would have taken a tremendous amount of time to do. So, I used a couple different widths of brushes, including a real fine detail brush to paint them. I didn't draw up the limbs, I just painted them on where ever I saw fit. It was actually a lot of fun.:D

One thing I did try to make sure of: Where the stand meets the tree in the "Y", I painted them brown, to better match the tree bark. Not that it mattered much, but I did it anyway.

It was actually very easy, and made the passing of hunting season not so hard to take.:)

On another note, I did take it out and look at it from various angles in the woods during second season and I must say it blends very well.

That really beautiful.......I did a similar pattern on my Chippewa Wedgeloc stand which came out great. I also tried it on my new Lone wolf hand climber and it didn't work so well.......oh well!

Good Job!

muzzy

The stand looks great. I hope the finish holds up for you. My cobra xls had quite a few large paint chips. I did a quickie ASAT paint job on it with the flat duck boat paints and stuck 3-D leafy tape on it to cover up the exposed metal.

Looks great!

titliest_03, I just used regular krylon flat paint in a can for the limbs. Its not quite as flat as the spray, probably equivelent to the dipping on bows actually. I kind of adds even more depth to it that way actually. (not planned:D)

Thanks again guys for all the compliments.

That's a fantastic paint job! Puts all of mine to shame.....all my stands are just paint in a blob like blend of colors. I think I know what one of my off-season projects will be now!

Yep, I'd bought some flat spray paint before and just made "swipes" or "passes" at the stand in an attempt to break up its outline, but after seeing this I'm going to have to get more serious about it. That thing is sweet looking. Great job!!
