Broadhead for Moose???.....5 Shot
I was thinking of using Rocket Steelhead 125s' on an upcoming Moose hunt but I am now considering going to a fixed blade.
I have narrowed it down to a few choices...Any comments on these heads. 1. Steelforce Hellfire 4 blade 150 gr 2. Magnus Snuffer 3 Blade 150 gr 3. Bloodtrialer Wedgehead 125 gr 4. Gametracker First Cut 2 blade 145 gr My bow shoots good bullet holes with 125gr and PERFECT bullet holes with 150 gr field points. I shoot 76 lbs at 27' draw. My hunting arrows will be 500 gr with the 150 gr head or 475 with the 125. I am leaning towards the Wedgehead because I have heard they are VERY accurate my only concern with them is if the blades will stand up. With the 150s I would also have an FOC of 12% versus 10% with 125s. Edited by - corey006 on 08/28/2002 15:13:08 |
RE: Broadhead for Moose???.....5 Shot
After looking at 5 shots tests and my own personal tests on broadheads I would consider one of these heads.
Phantom Broadheads (125 grains) $18.99 for 3 from Cabelas Bear Super Razorhead (145 grain) $12.50 for 3 from Cabelas Steel Force Titanium Hellfire (125 grain) 3 for $34.99 from Cabelas Magnus Four Blade (125 grain) 6 for $22.99 from Cabelas. Also don't sell a good replacement head short. Some worth checking out are these. Rocky Mountain Ironhead 125 Rocky Mountain T-125 Muzzy 4 blade 130 grain Thuderhead 125 If it was me I think I woudl go for the Phantoms or the Rocky Mountain Ironhead 125. Good Luck on your Trip, I wish you the best of luck! Be sure to show us a picture of that big moose you get! |

I found a GOOD deal on some Gametracker First Cuts....I will try them out and see how they penetrate when compare to the Rockets. I will also do some plywood shooting to see it they hold up.....

RE: Broadhead for Moose???.....5 Shot
The game tracker first cuts did well in my tests, and they are inexspensive. I like the Snuffers and the Steel force heads as well. In fixed blade head I would use a magnus two blade 125 grn srew in, or a phantom, or bear razorhead.
In a replaceable head any Muzzy or the Rocky ti- 125 would be a great choice. I don't like any mechancial heads for moose and I am not really sure about the puckets quality. I know the blood trailers didn't do well at all in my tests. Of course these would be my choices based on my tests. The Steel force heads are also very good and I would feel comfortable using them as well. TAKE YOUR KIDS HUNTING AND YOU WON'T BE HUNTING FOR YOUR KIDS |

hey 5er, have you ever tested zwickey eskimo 125 2 or 4 blades...and if so, how did it come out?
also why magnus over the zwicks? my ONLY complaint about the zwicks was they rust easy. They are however much easier to sharpen the magnus imo, but the magnus dont rust like the zwicks do, a big factor imo in keeping blades spooky sharp. http://www.geocities.com/tradbow007/...dventures.html |
RE: Broadhead for Moose???.....5 Shot
First cuts are suppose to be the best for swamp donkeys, due to their thick hide. Having said that I have only used Muzzy's and thunderheads previously in 3-blade versions of 125 grain, performed well.
The only reason I never wet with first cuts is set-up time, deer and moose archery overlap here. Making me want a single solution for both seasons. (to busy to worry about fiddling that late) |
RE: Broadhead for Moose???.....5 Shot
Lilhunter I have not tested any of the zwickey heads . That's the only reason I don't comment on them. I know they have been a staple of bow hunters for years, I just haven't got around to testing them yet.

I looked at the G5 but I don't think they make heavier heads in the 150 gr range.
