Deep Snow Whitetail Pics

Well, deep for Ohio. We were hit with 16" of snow in my area last week. When I checked my trail cam I had a lot of pictures of deer wading through or digging in the snow. In several spots of my food plot they dug through a foot and a half of snow to get the clover. These made for some neat photos so I thought I would share a few of the better ones.

This pic is right when the snow was really coming down.

This next pic shows how deep the snow ended up.

The next pic you can see the deer on the right digging to get to the clover. The deer on the left has its head buried in the snow to eat.

I actually posted this one last week. Thought it was worth posting again for those who did not see it as it fits in with my snow theme.

That is it for now. I took pictures of the spots where they dug through the snow but can't find my camera right now. Maybe I will post later if anyone has not seen this, I know I had not.

Cool pics.

I went out in the same kind of stuff (foot and a half of snow) and took a doe last night. I can telll you it sucks to walk through that stuff while dragging a deer behind you for two miles!!!

Just a quick question because I have no experience with trail camers. But wouldnt the falling snow set your camer off and burn up all your film, or memory, real quick? Or does it have to be more movement than falling snow?

Really neat pictures Blodg. One really has to feel for the deer when the snow gets that deep and if the anti's had their way, the results would be horrendous. Thanks for sharing, I've yet to get 1" of snow at my house in mid PA.....

MQ1shooter, congrats on taking a doe this late in the season. I have been trying to take a doe since early December and have not been succesful. I normally do not hunt this late in the season and I am finding it is not easy. I made it 3 hours yesterday afternoon in 5 degree F. temperature and saw 20 different deer. Saw them in 3 different groups and they were all very cautious, with all those eyes it will be tough to get drawn. But it was also the first of a 3 day muzzleloader season here and I think that had them spooked (oh and I could have shot any of them with a muzzleloader, not my style:).

Flintfinger, the Leaf River digital does not get triggered by the falling snow, or blowing grass or branches for that matter. It has a heat sensor and must detect heat and motion before it goes off. It is the only one I have used so I don't know if cheaper models might be more easily false triggered.

Shootem up870, I am using a Leaf River Digital, I would guess it is set 30" to 32" off the ground.

dkeener, unfortunately I have not seen or got a pic of a buck since the end of November. I got some trail cam pics of a few decent bucks in November but just found out one of them was shot during gun season. In my area there are mostly small woodlots and the gun hunters drive the crap out of them and shoot all the young bucks so our doe ratio is fairly high. Luckily my property is not my main hunting area, I have another property to hunt in Southern Ohio that has a good number of mature deer. I can't wait to put a trail cam there next year but it is 2 1/2 hours away.

Thanks for sharing those pics. I bought my hubby a trail cam for Christmas. I wasn't sure it would work in these frigid Ohio temps we've gotten recently. Glad to see they do work & how well it works:)

Those are some very cool pics! I hope your snow doesn't last too long. Or at least the depth that you have now. The deer are in for a dang tough winter if it does.
