What is going on?
I have been hunting quite a bit this week. I went every morning for about 3 hours and I went this afternoon for another 3. I see tons of tracks. I just cannot seem to be there when they are making them. What is the deal? Could they be moving at night? I see tons of tracks. It's like the deer are just waiting for me to leave before they come out. I can understand it just being a coincedence if it were one or two deer, but its several deer.

RE: What is going on?
The deer have had a ton of pressure on them by this time of the year. They are only going where they feel safe. Try a mid day hunt. Hunt thicker cover futher back in the woods. You have to change with them.

RE: What is going on?
I don't know what your weather has been but if it's cold like here the deer do tend to move midday for the warmth.

RE: What is going on?
There have been many reports of lots of midday activity here in KY for the last several weeks. I saw about 30 while driving at 1pm a couple weeks ago feeding in the fields like cattle.

OK ,lets see 3 hours in the morning ,three hours in the afternoon. .Maybe they went by the hours you went where ever you went ???????

RE: What is going on?
Midday hunt sounds like the perfect solution to your mystery tracks. Good luck!

RE: What is going on?
I do not have very much time to hunt Cardeer. I am fortunate enough to go hunting every day, but I cannot hunt very long. It's just weird that if I'm there in the morning, they come later, and if I'm there in the afternoon, earlier.

RE: What is going on?
Probably alot of night time movement. I've always known that the deer move considerably more at night especially when they are pressured but after developing my trail cam pics the last two seasons, I was enlightened to the fact that almost all thier movement is under the cover of darkness.

RE: What is going on?
Don't forget that it wasn't that long ago that we had a time change ,so that mean's your going in later in the morning and earlier in the afternoon, but your also leaving earlier, so you see the deer really haven't changed anything ,it just seem's that way. They're still coming out at 6:00pm in the evening ,but your gone because it's too dark ,right. In the morning the deer are still in the field's at 6:00 am like usual but there's no sense in you going hunting because you can't see your pin's anyway's ,right .So you see the deer really haven't changed that much it just seem's like they have . It's because we've changed our patterns because of the time change .LOL

RE: What is going on?
Zak,
Definately go during the midday. I sat early and late and haven't seen a thing either, swithced to midday since the weather has been extreemely cold here and now I am seeing deer. Usually between 10 and 3. Good luck!!! |
RE: What is going on?
I saw three groups of deer browsing in picked fields near woods at midday or so today while driving in OH and IN. Reminded me of what I see on a July evening. There is a 5-8 inch snowcover where I saw them.
