Lost buck found

As the old saying goes, you always have to look for the good within the bad. My dad shot a nice buck several weeks ago and despite our searching we couldn't recover him. We thought he may have ran into a piece of land we didn't have permission to be on, so we contacted some people who leased the land for pheasant hunting purposes and asked them to contact us if they found anything. Well last night we got a call that they found a dead buck down near a creekline. This morning we recovered the deer, which had been eaten by coyotes. It's certainly sad to say that the deer was not recovered before this happened, but I guess it's better than not recovering it at all.

Here's the pictures.

Could you tell where "Dad" hitt'em? Nice deer too bad.

Eh, it was a bad shot. His arrow hit a raspberry bush on the way towards the deer, deflected, and hit him in the neck. You can see the arrow hole in the pictures. :(

And no, I didn't shoot this deer. I shoot 2 blade Magnus Stingers, and you can see the wound was clearly made by a 3 blade broadhead (Thunderhead). So shut it! :D

Yeah, they called us and told him where we could pick him up. Pretty amazing considering the things people do for a nice set of deer antlers these days.

He'll have to fight me for it. I think I could take him, he's getting old.

Was your Dad in a treestand when he shot or on the ground?

How far from impact did this buck travel?

I'm glad at least you guys recovered something out of such disappointment. :)

Sorry you weren't able to recover him before the coyotes got him, but at least you've got some closure.

The shot was from a treestand, immediately afterward the buck ran due East through a cut corn field and into the woods about 200 yards later. Unfortunately it was the day after a snowstorm and things were melting fast. We had blood up to the edge of the woodline, then luckily we found another spot about 100 yards later, headed South, and that was it. The buck was eventually found about 500 yards in the exact opposite direction of where he ran after being shot. As they often do, he made a giant circle before finally expiring.

I feel for your father.... I also did my part to feed the population of coyotes in my hunting area this year:([:@] They made a big meal out of my buck also.
It's not a good feeling... guess I'll have to try more Coyote Bowhunting in the late season now;) Its Payback Time[8D]:D

At least he gets the closure. I'd be heart broken had I lost him. He's a dandy.

On the bright side, at least he didn't go completely to waste. I'm sure the critters ate well for a good while.

That sucks! At least you were able to recover it so there's no doubt in your mind about wether he lived or died.
Nice buck!
