Bucks over Bait. I've never seen a buck at a corn pile. (Although my wife spotted one on a PSE video-you could even see the birds eating it. The guy on the video made out like he had been tracking this buck for days!). A lot of local hunters in N Wisc. get big bucks over bait but I think they put out truckloads of the stuff daily (highly illegal!). I usually only bait in the late season and have yet to see a buck at a pile.

Grunting is absolutely useless here. I have never grunted in a buck. The can is pretty useless 99% of the time but the 1% that it works it works very well. It's about the same thing rattling. I have rattled in some deer but I rattle 30-40 times for every response I get. Hunting open fields is another. It is normally a rare occurence that mature bucks come into an open field that happens mostly during the rut.

Mostly anything I see on a hunting DVD or video. doesn't work for me. deer lures, I have never seen a deer come to my lure sniff it or anything like it in my life. Don't use anymore.

Rattleing I have never seen a deer react favorable to a rattle. I have seen some leave however. Don't use anymore.

As far as deer calls, I don't buy them anymore, I just grunt and make noises with my own voice. Bottom line when a deer is ready to respond to a noise it will. I find I don't need a 20 dollar deer call to make that noise.

I find if the wind is in the deer's favor, you can get detected just as easy with scent containment clothing as without it.

What works for me, get up in a tree, watch the wind and be still and get ready...

scent control, stealth, scouting, sighting in your weapon, and remaining awake. did i mention that hunting EVERYDAY FOR 10 - 12 HOURS A DAY DOES NOT WORK EITHER?

i say this because its always the jackass with gasoline on his boots, a greasy carhart jacket and a rusty single shot with a bead on the front that stumble bums into the woods after spending 45minutes in a greasy spoon diner with a broken exhaust fan and shoots a BIG BUCK 20 feet from where i've been hunting all season.

there is no justice
do i sound bitter? GOOD!

god i hate this sport
;)

Rattling, same results as silent

The grunt call works enough to keep me using it, I have killed 2 bucks that I grunted in from far away

Decoy, used it once, cost me a buck........nosey a$$ doe!!

Lures...........Just the logic behind it makes it impossible to work for bowhunters, no luck at all.........

Travel corridors during the rut...........Down here, a buck can and will travel ANYWHERE and is usually not in the textbook locations.

Sometimes I think the deer like the smell of gasoline, heavens knows they must smell enough of it. Maybe they get a buzz from it. Seem to come right to a smoaking chain saw too.

I almost forgot scents because I quit wasting money on them long ago.
