Thanks for putting that up. I read all the comments that followed it, and was interested to read that worse damage has been done with aluminum.

In that link there was a guy talking about left and right handed arrows. I don't see how any arrow can be constructed to only accept right or left hand bows. Is there such a thing or was he just trying to be funny?

Yow!

So flexing your carbons will show any crack you may have on the arrow shaft?

don't think that only carbons will do this..I had a defective aluminum arrow cut my hand in the same place. When I shot it, it sounded like a gun going off and the arrow went in 3 directions...cut my hand open in the same place as this guys...Granted, there were no carbon shards, but still dangerous.

RE: OUCH!! Inspect carbons B4 shooting!

My wife's brother put his eye out with a wooden arrow thirty years ago when he was a teenager. Changed his life; he had been very athletic but then lost his depth perception. Can't play many sports without that.

He was shooting a bow when the arrow broke and somehow pivoted on the bow and swiped across his eye on the rebound, cutting it wide open.

Of course, at my wife's insistence, my sons and I wear safety glasses when we shoot anything. Up til now it has been only to pacify her - heck, modern arrows aren't going to break like wooden ones, right?

Well, after reading this and the follow up posts that say aluminum can be even worse, the glasses aren't just to pacify the wife anymore. We'll wear them earnestly. Thanks for the post.

It's silly to blame carbon arrows for this. They are but one piece of hunting equipment that needs to be checked for integrity prior to using. Lots of things can hurt if you use them and they are damaged; treestands, bows, releases, rifles etc. Check it all regularly and be safe!!

My brother had one blow up on him while sighting in for Turkey hunting this last spring. He was lucky and just ended up with a sore bow hand and a few splinters. Scary Stuff![:o]

OUCH:(
I was reading alot of posts on the site with the pictures and couldent believe the amount of people saying I will only shoot alluminum arrows for now on or maybe those carbon express are "junk"maybe i'll just shoot gold tip now--come on-the arrow was probably underspined or even worse it was likely damaged during the last shot and the guy didn't notice it.Things like this can happen with any BRAND of carbon. After each shot check your arrow for cracks or splinters,do the bend and twist test before shooting the arrow and hopefully we wont see another picture like this.

He was just foolin'. Arrows are not hand-specific.

I have a nasty scar on my left index finger that proves this doesn't just happen with carbons. Happened about 20 years ago. Spine was correct arrow just failed. I have always checked my arrows ever since.

I have been shooting my cx 300's all summer and fall with no problems, actually they are one of the best arrows i've tried.Just make sure to check your arrows for damage after each shot.As a matter of fact, check any carbon arrow after each shot.

I use an 85 grain spitfire to keep the front end light as possible just for that reason.

gman, flexing a carbon wrapped arrow, like the ACC and ACE will show fractures with this method. The carbon is an outer wrap over an aluminum core. A hollow core carbon arrow can be fractured on the inside by the core. This fracture will not be visible and in most cases will be detected when the arrow impacts the target. In rare instances, with extreme accelleration, the arrow can let go when released.
