Default Hunting Profile-Who's here???

Just a little curious who we have on this board. What state or states do you hunt whitetail in each year? How much time do you spend bowhunting/hunting in a typical season? How much time scouting? What about other hunting activities-shooting, organizations involved with? What about field preperation, stands and such? Do you hunt the entire bow season-Oct.-Jan.? What type of animals are you after?-2.5 year olds or better, mature only, or anything brown.

And how long have you been doing-it??

This is not intended too get into any "# of deer harvested bragging" opportunities.

Just Curious. I actually have to fill one of these out to be considered for some possible leases and it just got me thinking.

Jeff...U.P. of Michigan.

Bow only in Carbondale, IL Which is in Southern IL where I live. Bow/Gun season in Central MO. I spend about 150+ hours hunting each season. I scout about 30+ hours. I am trying to get in on a 3D league but have a baby coming so time will tell. I also am a big goose, quail, pheasent, coyote, turkey, and sometimes elk hunter (when budget allows). I spent 8 hours trimming and pruning fire lanes and good climbing stand trees. I hunt till my tags are filled. I shoot the first big doe that comes by then focus on a wall hanger. Usually eyeball 110-120 scoring or over. I have been deer hunting 5 years this year. This is the first year I have tagged a buck.

I hunt Pa. I've hunted the suburbs, farmland, and big woods areas of the state. I am most comfortable in the farmlands. I have hunted posted land, private but non posted land, and state forest land. I hunt 3-4 evenings a week and saturdays during archery. I also small game hunt, fox hunt and fish. My only self imposed restriction is shooting a racked buck. I have been hunting for 16 years, 14 of which with a bow. I am split 18 to 17 deer with gun vs bow. I scout as often as I can but never as much as I'd like to. I like going to the gun club and shooting and I just got into reloading. THink that sums it up.

I mainly bowhunt, occasionally shoot a smoothbore at ducks and geese. My stomping ground is around Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. (Grew up rifle hunting in South Africa.) In the primitive weapons zones you are entitiled to a doe tag as well as an either sex whitetail tag. As an archer youi can purchase a mulie tag (as opposed to rifle/slug gun/muzzle-loaders/crossbows) who have to enter a draw system. This year elk, moose and bear will be added to my agenda - have to travel a little further and arrange time off work. For deer I hunt/spot/scout almost every day in season (September to early December) - flexi-time and the fact that I live on the edge of the primitive weapons zone helps. The areas of posted land I hunt often are only 10 minutes from home.

I am from Frankfort, IL which is a SW suburb of Chicago. I just started bow this year and am going to also add shotgun next year. I spent over 100 hrs. in the stand, but none scouting. I have gotten into a lease for next season so I will spend a lot more time scouting for next year. I am looking for some meat to put in the freezer so not really any restictions.

I hunt about everything available in KY, gun or bow, but mostly bow. I spend all the time hunting possible. I hunt the entire bow season. I hunt deer, turky, squirrel, rabbit, quil and i was lucky to get a bobcat with a bow this season. Now i want a cyote with my bow. I think that will be a real challenge.

I hunt whitetails in Ohio only.I havn't been to any other states yet.I also shoot 3-D tournaments for practice only, and been a member of a archery club for the last 14 years.I hunt about 30 days a season with bow, then go out in shotgun season only if I hav'nt filled my tags.We scout almost all year long. After deer season is over,we get our beagle's out for some rabbit hunting, this is a good way to scout the woods while enjoying the small game season to.When the weather warms up in the spring, its time to go after the bass. When were not on the lake,we enjoy shooting groundhogs on the farms we deer hunt on.This is a good way to stay on good terms with the landowners. We try and get to atleast 2,3-D shoots a month during shooting season. Our time is pretty much taken up on the weekends, don't get around to doing much more then I allready described.<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

Don't hunt whitetails. None to be found here in California so we hunt blacktails and mule deer. Shoot and hunt with a longbow and recurve for deer, hogs, turkey, pheasant, quail, grouse, coyotes, marmots (groundhogs), squirrels, rabbits and anything else legal which keeps me busy most of the year. Been hunting for about 14 years, 12 with a bow. I rarely hunt anyplace except California. Don't really need to, but it'd be nice to be able to. Don't hunt from a tree. I like my feet on the ground and taking me to the animal. I scout constantly. Whenever I'm out walking I'm scouting game of one kind or another. I shoot a few 3D's every year. Belong to our local and state bowhunting orgs as well as NRA. My prep for heading into the field is year long as well. I'm either dressing up some arrows or sharpening broadheads. Shooting my primary hunting bow is also a year round joy. I do hunt several of our bow seasons here in Cal. Zone A opens in July for bows and runs a couple of months including rifle season. Then there are 20 other zones that can be hunted. I usually stop hunting deer in October and start concentrating on other species that I hunt closer to home.

i hunt alaska, i spent around 300 hours or so scouting, 20 full days moose hunting,10 days this year caribou hunting, 5 or 6 days chaseing bears around. plus a few hours here and there watching sheep. typicly i spend about 8 hours a week shooting. im constantly lookig for somehting i dont have or need or somehing better, i even wore my new camos to my company christmas party. ive been hunting for 25 years and bowhunting for 3. its not about killing its about being there one on one with mother nature, the sights, sounds and smells. nothing makes your hair stand up like the smell of a bear crossing your path and seeing the prints that are bigher than your boots.
