When you see rubs...is it time to rattle??

On our lease(in North Central Texas) we just started seeing fresh rubs this past weekend. These are the first ones we have seen all year. Would this be a good time to try rattling??
Also, does this mean the rut is just now starting? It seems a little late even for our area which usually is on by the middle of November. Thanks

It would depend upon if they are velvet removal rubs, or rubs of dominance. If, they are rubs of dominance- start rattling. Bucks respond more to rattling during the pre-rut, actual rut, and post rut- rather than the actual Peak Rut. Once they are settled in with a doe they won't hard pay attention to rattling. So my guess would be to go ahead and use rattling and maybe an early season attractant. Good luck

I agree deer are most likely to respond in the pre rut. It certainly isn't going to hurt though. If the rut is in swing I'd use very short 10-15 second sequences.
