getting rid of poachers

Poachers are sort of like rodents... but you can't treat them like that because of a number of factors. (FYI, if you poach you suck). I wanted to pose a question on here and see if I couldn't get some help thinking something through that I've been thinking about for a bit. I'm looking for some land to hunt on (don't have anything larger than 5 acres right now [:'(]) and was wondering something. If you get exclusive access to, oh say 200 acres. How soon and how aggresively would you go after getting poachers off the property? Would you let the owner guide you in how/when to do it (if at all)? The pro's are obvious, I guess I was just thinking about the con's more than anything. Like for example, what if you get into it with a poaching neighbor and the neighbor get's you kicked off? What else could go wrong?

I'd get on it right from the start ,
that way it sends a message through their loosely knit little community . I have found that they seem to be allergic to small puffs of dust near their feet ... ;)

Kevin and DW,

Man, guys think about what you're saying before you type!!! Less than a day after a tragedy involving a trespasser and you guys are replying that you shoot at trespassers.
Give me a freaking break, fellas!! I'm the last person in the world to be PC, but man, you can't put stuff like that on a public board. Grow up guys, or we're all gonna lose our hunting rights.

I'd get right on it but after speaking with the land owner and seeing what their position on the matter is. You may call it "exclusive access" but if the land owner dosn't want you to chase people off then what can you really do? I'd talk to the owner, see about putting up signs or other remedies but definately run it be the owner.

Kevin and dwd2001,
I'm sure the two of you are just kidding but I question the taste of you comments as well. What happened in Wi over the weekend is truly a tragedy, it could have happened anywhere that a wacco roams but now isn't the best time IMO to make light of such a serious subject.

Leave law enforcement to law enforcement officials. Today, we all learned what vigilante justice can create.

What a bad week for sports - Ron Artest and Deer Hunters gone postal. We need to just settle down a bit.

That is just wrong on so many levels.

That hunter/poacher/pyscho that killed those other 5 hunters, and wounding 3 others was an Oriental. Great, there'a already not too many Orientals hunting....now there will be less. Every other hunter's going to look at an Oreintal as a potential killer.

I don't know what happened there....maybe he's a psycho...or maybe racial slurs were thrown at him.....and he just freaked out. Not that I'm condoning his actions.

Back to the original question....best way is to let the landowner post signs and/or tell those poachers to leave the area.

If I did not know some people in the area, I would be hesitant to buy or lease the land that the good ole boys have been hunting and poaching for years. Ask some serious questions and get the good honest eye contact response from many of the locals. Close neighbors could be ones to watch. Watch out- as we all know some poachers can be dangerous when you get aggressive with them.
