rut help????

well guys, since i failed in getting my buck this early season, I am going to be hunting late season, which opens here in WA on sun

Anyways my questions are this. Im guessing it is about peak rut right now? Ive been seeing alot of bucks chasing doe.
So what do I want to use for calls and scent, Im thinking Ill be using my can call? and maybe do a drag line with estrus doe scent.
Is this a good idea? Also how long do you make your drag lines? and do you need to do them in a big circle Incase the buck follows it the wrong way?

You answered your own question. This would be a good start. Some hunters try to stay away from strong estrous scents, but I find the best solution comes from trial and error. Personally I have had good results from a product called "Golden Estrus" you can buy it at Walmart. If the rut is on pretty hard, I would start anywhere from 4 or 5 hundred yards from my stand with the drag and refresh ever so often. Starting from a farther distance could help pick up a cruising buck that otherwise wouldnt even get close. Be sure to be as scent free as possible!! Avoid touching branches or undergrowth on the way in. As far as the can call...if you decide to use a "calling blind" technique, be sure not to over call. Hope this helps answer some of your questions. Good Luck!!

Also remember, does that are not in estrous will avoid estrous urine. If a buck is running a doe and see turns away for that reason, then he'll prob. follow her. On the other hand...if theres a lonely buck looking for a doe and hasnt yet found one...The scent will drive him up the wall!! The choice is yours.

I use the can. SOmetimes its hit or miss. I used it two weeks ago during bow season i called in a couple of curious buck with it. So give it a try and if you get nothing, then i would abandon it
