Did any body watch

The out door life channel this weekend where a guy shot at a deer with a mechanical and missed because the blade opened?

A coworker this morning fired the big guns at me(he is a die hard fixed blader )

can anyone fill me in on the details?

just real curious on the facts.

I saw an episode this weekend, but do not recall the name of the show. A guy was in a ground blind that he had hastily fashioned with a small lane open into the field. When he shot, his arrow hit a rock that was at the bottom of the shooting lane. Do not know if this is the one you are speaking about or not.

How exactly was it determined that the blade it opened? YOu might point out to your buddy that happens about once in every 20,000 shots. If it is correct it would be the first time I ever heard of it. I have heard a bunch of people say they didn't open until they put a piece of paper or something up that verifies that they did infact open. I have also heard so companies recommend adding rubber bands when you get into the 280 fps range but still never actually heard of one not opening.

I'm with you Lil'Hunter: I get more episodes of Bill Dance than I do hours of sleep a night. Another one I get over and over and over is "Huntin' With Doc". That's got to be the stupidest dog ever born. He's been on a training leesh for about 3 years now and heard "Whoaaaaahh... Whoooooahhhh... about 50 zillion times and still doesn't understand what it means.

As far as the question on premature openings of mechanicals.... one guy I saw on a video had his arrows short enough that when he partially drew or tightened the pressure on the string and his arrow fell off the rest he let down. The arrow sliding on the shelf caught on one the blades and it opened.

I saw the show and he said the head opened up. I don't think it did. There was a good size piece of rock gone when they showed it. IMHO he under estimated how high the rock was and tried to coverup by saying the head opened up. He was in a blind and the rocks were about chest high in front of him. The deer was in back of the rocks. His sight plain might have been o.k. but, the arrow is lower than that.

Ahhhhhh .... someone who actually saw the thing and can explain it. It always helps. From the description I'd say Big G probably hit the nail on the head. There's no way he can determine if his blade opened prematurely and there in nicked a rock. The dummy was set up wrong for his skills. Sounds like another classic example of Murhpy's Law and the Bowhunting Gods.
