Any Opinions on a bow to these specs?
 

Hello,

I'm a pretty avid duck hunter and have hunted deer with a rifle a few times. I greatly enjoyed deer hunting, but would like more of a challenge. I have some acreage to hunt on and I'm loooking to get a bow. Could someone recommend a beginner type bow?


Some specs that seemed to fit me from info i've got...
27 inch draw
higher letoff
AMO around 220 or so(Is that enough to hunt deer with?)
7in+ Brace height
Possibly one cam

There are quite a few bows that would fit your criteria....quite a few bows from each company actually. I would suggest heading to the local pro shop and inquiring there first. A reputable shop can point you in the right direction in terms of not only equipment but shooting form as well.

If you are interested in a particular brand of bow then you can head to their website and use their dealer locator feature. On most sites you can either check out every dealer in your state or type in your zip code to find several dealers close to you.

Look at the BowTechs.
Liberty: 33" ATA, 7 1/2" brace.
Patriot: 33" ATA, 7" brace.
Justice 31" ATA, 8" brace.
Mighty Mite: 31" ATA, 7 3/4" brace.
Any of these bows will make more than the speed you want, while being very shootable and quiet.

Some other good quality bows are those made by Martin Archery. Some advice I might add is to not get a bow too short. As a beginner you'll be served better by a bow of medium length, such as about 36" or a bit more. Martin Quest with Tru-Arc cams. If ya don't mind spending a bit then a real nice speed demon would be the Martin Shadowcat with the Nitrous cams. This is a real sweetie and one I just ordered. All depends on your pocketbook.

There are other nice bows made by Parker, Darton, and others.

Another thing is to consider that you may be shooting a long time so don't overbow yourself. 60 lbs is enough for anything on this continent. Accuracy is what works better than extra Kinetic Energy. And it's always easier to shoot a lighter draw weight. Don't geta real light bow either. A bow, just like a gun, settles down and aims better if it's got some mass weight to it.

You already got an idea about the brace height. Keep at or above 7". That's why I mentioned the two Martins above. The shadowCat is 7 1/4" and the Quest is 8".
