i need help from real bow hunters
 

hey im very new to the whole bow hunting scene i got my liscense about 5 years ago and i never used it. about a week befor the bow hunting season started my father gave me his bow that he has not used for years. it was about 10 years old and it looked stone age the sights were jus two little dots, they wernt even set up corectly. so being almost new to bowhunting i had now idea how to set it up and so forth. ive been shooting about two feet low and about a foot to the left using the sights. if any can tell me which way to move the dots or if i should just get new sight. any pointers to setting it up would really help

Pete if your shooting to the left then move your pins to the left,if your shooting low then move your pins down lower.All this is only going to help if the bow fits you properly.Take it to a pro shop and have them set it up for ya.
Now just remember to follow the arrow with the sights.Shooting high move up,shooting low move down--etc.
With alot of practice you will be ready to tackle bowhunting next year.

If the bow is that old, I would replace that string quick. Like extreme said, take it to a bow shop to get it set up. For just a few bucks, you can have a pro set it up with a new string, peep sight, string silencers, etc... The bowshop will also be able to determine if you are even shooting the best arrow for the bow (weight, length, etc.). You don't necessarily have to replace the pins - pins are pins and they are on or not. However, sites have come a long way and you would probably benefit from going to a better site - one that has fiberoptics for example will make the pins glow a bit in low light conditions. Also as extreme pointed out, have someone see if the bow even fits you. If the bow is too long for example, you will more than likely have trouble with getting back to the same anchor point every time. Good luck.

thnx u guyz i decided just to send it to a pro shop and c what they say. but i have been looking around this website and i have seen allot about whisker buiscits and the new quik spin fletching. are these items really worth the money and do they really effect the flight of the arrow that much

I can only speak for the Quikspins. They are the only way to go in my view. My bow shot just fine before I fletched the spins and the groups just shrank teh frist time out. They are expensive and after reading your questions I'd say you should wait to see the outcome on your bow. As badshotbob said the arrows you have might not even be the proper shafts and spending the money twice isnt a good thing. If it is too long or short of a draw you should look for a means of either ajdusting the draw (this means changing pullys on an older bow) or just find something else to shoot. Having good, tuned equipment is important. Read some of the "I can't find my deer" stories and put two and two together and there just might be a common cause.

Pete; Very first thing to do is go to your bow shop and have them measure you for your draw length----most important thing. Then try out different bows and see what pound pull is easiest for you. Be absolutely sure you don't have to grunt and groan to get it to full draw-----you'll find out this is extreamly important after you see your first buck and you attempt to draw your bow and you have to hold it over your head and are sweating to get it drawn while the buck jumps out of the area!!! You want to be able to draw it while you"re at a sitting position--IMO. Plus you won't end up having to have rotator surgery !!! I have a few buddies that think it's macho to be able to draw 80 lbs but they have to exert so much energy to get it at full draw they're exasted when they get it there and then can't hold it for more than a minute----that does you absolutely no good at all. You want to be able to hold your bow at full draw for quite a while waiting for the deer to get to you. After you get the proper measurements---look on EBAY and there are some amazing deals there. Especially if you're looking at next season to really get serious. The off season sales from guys will save you a ton of money and you can pick up a real quality bow for peanuts compared to your local bow shop---trust me on this. Hope this helps ya out....:) In my opinion---bow hunting is one of lifes real pleasures. You extend your hunting season to 5 times what it would have been and putting a deer down with a bow is an adreniline rush that is hard to beat!!!! The deer can't be 200-300 yards away----it has to be 10-40 yards away and you can see their eyes.....;) Have a great hunting season!!!!
