Saw my first buck of the season and blew it!
Well it was about 5:30 at night and starting to get dark. I hadn't seen anything all night or even in the last 6-8 hunts. I flipped my bleat in heat can to see if i could draw anything in and i heard something move behind me. I slowly turned to look and saw a 10"spike coming into my doe scent in the tree. He came into my shooting lane and when i lifted my bow and my cam hit the tree stand. The buck ran and then came back in later but not close enough to get a shot. I'll get him on thursday night.

Don't worry i missed a 8-10 sunday nite about 20 yards away by hitting a small limb with my arrow. Then went out tonite and jumped the huge boy bedded down 50 yrds from my stand with the doe he came in with. Hope the pig stays around.

Always be standing with the bow in the ready the first and last hour of the hunt. This time it was only a spike. Next time it could be the ONE. You have a better chance always during these times and getting into shooting position is very tough if not impossible when the big boy is in the area.
Figure out how you can hold the bow ready to shoot with out wearing out your arm. For me, my bow slips into my front pocket for the "really ready position" or in my side pouch on my leg for the "almost ready". Eitherway it requires very little movement to bring it into position to draw it back. Also, if you hunt a release, hook it on at first sign of movement for the same reason. You never know when he will show up and having another set of eyes ups the difficulty. Good luck you will get your buck. |
