Per the email I got with these pictures ...........

On Saturday, 6 Nov 04, at approximately 1130 hours we received a call at the ORC from CB Range Control that a helicopter pilot, that was supporting training here at CB, had seen a large buck that appeared to have a broken back at grid coordinates near GS 77. At about 1200, Preston, Randy O'Neil , and I went to see if we could find the deer. We went to the grid coordinates and our preliminary search did not show any sign of the deer. We did see an area in the tall grass that looked like something had been drug through the area. We split up and Randy went in the direction the drag marks were headed. There was no blood. After a search of about 15 minutes, Randy yelled "here he is". I went back to get the truck and Randy and Preston keep an eye on the deer. He appeared to have a back injury. When I return with the truck, the deer had managed to travel about 200 yards toward a tree line and had fallen or laid down. When we approached the area where they thought the deer had gone down we could not find him, so we searched down the tree line and found him in the tall grass. He was still alive, but when I approached him, I got within 10 yards and he did not get up. I took a couple of steps closer and started talking to the deer to see if he was going to be able to get up. He did get to his feet and started moving toward me at a slow run. He was very unstable on his feet and he went by me and straight toward my truck. He ran into the right front brush guard and went down the side of the truck. Preston was still in the bed of the truck and when the deer went down the side of the truck he grabbed his antlers and hollered that he got him. He just about pulled Preston out of the bed of the truck before Randy and I could get there to help him. We subdued the deer and return to the ORC with the deer at 1330 hours.
