That's a nice buck Badhunter! I wouldn't say he has bad genetics, it's common here in Maine for big bucks to have racks that don't match the body size. A lot of it has to do with nutrition, plus I would say he's a fairly young deer. Are you going to send in for your BBMC patch?

ok, maybe it's the pic, but that deer doesn't look like he's 220 pounds. i'm sure it's just the angle i'm looking at.

Nice buck congrats. Northern New England deer often times though large bodied have smaller tighter racks. I agree with others it is not genetics but the lack of quality nutrition. Farms with crops are becoming far between and the deer primarily live on plain old grass and forest greens throughout the summer during antler development. We do have an abundance of oaks but they typically do not start dropping until September or October when 99% of antler development is already complete. last night I helped a buddy drag out an 8 pointer who went 181 lbs and the rack was thick and wide but not much height. Either way it is a keeper and nice job on your first buck.
