Yes good land makes everything fun. In 7 hunts, I've had over 100 deer walk underneath me. My favorite hunt was the other night when I had five 8 points pass by. One while climbing the tree. It wasn't really the fact it was five 8 points but the constant deer movement. I never got the chance to sit down. The home owner says he can get with in 10' of these guys before they will even think about moving. I told him it was because he wasn't pointing a bow at them.

That night, 4 wheelers helped me out. They were tearing up and down the field next to me and it pinned the bucks into the thickets. That was a lot of fun . I also had 12 turkeys pass in between me and my friend, who was only 70 yards from me. I thought for sure I was going to get one of them, but then one of the 8 points came through and redirected them.

Keep passing on anything you won't mount until after the rut. Then be selective. I prefer to shoot bambi but will take a buck if I feel like it. I can't hurt the area I'm in. There are just too many deer.

The guy that is doing my European mount (beetle cleaned) had some sweet bucks on his wall and in his garage. Of course I got to talking with him and he goes on to say he only will shoot something in the 140 class or above. I almost spit my coffee all over his garage in laughter. I asked him where exactly he gets to be so selective. Come to find out that his family owns and strictly manages about 900 acres of land locally and only him and his 2 brothers hunt with their father. They have multiple food plots and rediculous numbers of deer. He said he sees 40+ deer every day on stand and they have some nice mature bucks for this year. Must be nice!! Makes my new "petting zoo" look like a dump ;)

Perfect example of something mentioned earlier..........is this guy a great hunter?? I have no idea........he sure does have some great LAND though.....that is for sure!!! Anybody with enough patience to sit in a stand at his place could tag out every year and consistently take large bucks.

I know one thing for sure...........I told him if he ever wants a hunting partner I will drive, bring the coffee AND buy lunch every day :D

Over on our place in Iowa, we have been kinda half ass managing it the last coupla years, and we were going to go all out this year and plant food plots, but heavy rains prevented us from getting down there. its acccesible by a mile long gravel road to teh gate, and then a mile gravel downhill road to teh bottom. field roads and logging roads to the rest. we have a national monument on two sides so the deer have a refuge. but becasue there is little food there, they are forced to our land and the surrounding neighbors. i see at least 15 deer every time im there, sometimes 50. we've taken some nice bucks out of there. is it because we're great hunters? no, theres guys around here that bowhunt that are just plain awesome..do deer densities and having an awesome location help? of course. i would be willing to bet anything that we have the best 640 acres for trophy whitetail bucks in all of iowa. next spring we're going to make it even better. IMO, 140 inch bucks can be grown anywhere. it takes intense management, with proper conditions, good nutrition, and passing up the immature bucks to consistenly grow 160" plus bucks.Genetics are also a huge factor. we're starting to get that here. we hve a good base of 120-140" bucks with an above normal number of 150+ plus bucks.

Quality land makes all the difference. I have been hunting public land since I first became interested in the sport. The first decade was a trying experience.I didn't even see a deer in the first 5 years and didn't take a shot at a deer until the 10th year.Maybe if more of us didn't practice the BROWN AND DOWN method public land would be of better quality,,,,,,,,, as for your situation,,,,count your blessings and don't do anything that would get yourself thrown off that property
