What's your longest DBL Lung Recovery?

Just curious how far your farthest recovery on a Double lung shot deer was. My buddy shot a 6 point last night and double lunged it and it still went 150 yards. I thought that was odd. The farthest I have ever heard of a deer running (off the top of my head) with a double lung hit was 80 yards.

What about you guys?

The longest was close to 100 yards...that was with a .270. About 60-70 with my bow.

Apprx. 150 yrds ..............and I thought it would never happen again ! But I have shot 3 this year that have made it over 100 yrds and the picture is of one that went 125+ yrds !

All this year I have paid close attention to them and heard them go down within a few seconds ! But they ran full blast until they died !

Failed to mention I have killed plenty that went down in 25-75 yrds ! Seems very odd that these 3 this year went as far as they did .........but !@$@ happens !

I can't think of an instance where a double lung had traveled more then 70-80 from the spot where it was hit to where it crashed.

Where my buddy hunts they have super deer. The things won't die. I helped him track one two years ago. It went around and around that forest forever. We found it after hundreds of yards travelled. Perfect dbl lunger. Last year, same thing with a young buck, shot appeared perfect but took us forever to find it. Sunday afternoon he calls me, made a shot on a deer and can't find him. Of course I'm not surprised given the superdeer genetics those things must have. Couldn't help him due to kids Halloween stuff. He tracked it for ever back and forth through the creek and timber, never found him. By the way, this buddy is the best shot I've ever seen. Won or placed second in state games for years. He joked that he was going to start shooting them in the head from now on.;)

If this happened to me that often I would definitely experiment with different broadheads. An arrow-shot deer bleeds to death. Bleeding is caused by the broadhead. Try something different.

We were just talking about that last night. He has been using Thunderhead 125's for years. I use the same head and have had great success. He's looking for a new broadhead, any ideas?(I may change too!)

My longest was about 100 yards. I did see one on an NRA Drury produced vidio that made it between 250-300 yards. I would not have believed it if someone told me.

my longest was 40 or so yards and that includes hogs. I think the difference is how alarmed the animal becomes prior and post impact. If they become alerted by the bow noise or in the case of a longer shot the sound of the arrow wizzing in the air I think they run farther and faster making the track that much longer.

Two seasons ago I made my first heart shot and crashed that guy within 35 yards. After dressing him out I hauled him to the local cooler to hang and let the meat chill overnight. Since it was bow season there were not too many deer hanging in the locker and this old rifle hunter was asking about my deer (my best so far including my gun years). I had tossed the heart in the bed of my truck and showed it to him and pointed out the triangle slice. He asked how far it went and I whipped out my digital camera and showed him pics taken from my stand and pointed out the dead deer. He was amazed and said he had heart shot deer with a gun and they ran 150 yards with an expoloded heart. Now, seems to me that is a long way to go with an exploded heart but if you have ever been shot at you know what a gun sounds like when it goes off and is pointed at you. It makes you want to run like hell!

Might have had one go over 100 but for the most part its 70 or less. All depends on the deer when you shot it and the deer its self i guess

Not one over 70 yards and that one was downhill.

92 yards from point of impact, but it was the easiet blood trail i've ever followed.

Never seen one break 100yards with a confirmed broadhead hole through both lungs. Have seen some single lung shots break 200yards before.

I think some people need anatomy classes. A true double long won't be going for hundreds or yards or hours.... or minutes for that matter, unless like someone suggested... there's something wrong with the broadheads.

until this year the farthest bow shot deer Ive had was a single lunger that went about 80yds.
then earlier this year I shot a deer that had just been spooked by my buddy and watched it run slear acrossed a cut corn field and 40yds into the next wood block. the distance was over 250yds. the only thing I can figure that made it run so far was the adrenaline rush he already had by being spooked.

The norm is less than 100 yards, many fall within easy view.

There have been two exceptions, both does. Both went easily over 200 yards. Both confirmed center punched double lung shots.

Dave, I gotta disagree on this one with you bud. I never would have believed it if I wouldn't have seen it on tape from reputable people. I really don't believe I need anatomy classes. If you'd like the name of the tape let me know.
