Rut weather

What is everybody's take on the (non) rut weather we are getting? I know if it were 36 degrees for a high then deer hunting would be totally awesome. But the long range forecast for the (Northeast) looks very warm for this time of year. I wonder if that will just totally suppress daytime rutting activity.

Well we would all like to have those ideal temp`s But i really don`t think it will make much difference to the deer "Day or Night". (IMO) When the big boys start really getting after the doe`s They are not really thinking about the weather at that point(IMO):D

Actually yes, I am very concerned. The warmer weather will mean that most the breeding activity will be taking place mostly at night in the cooler temperatures. The breeding will indeed still happen, you just won't see as much activity during daylight hours. I've seen it before, I always take the last week of our archery season off work, the second week of Nov which is normally peak rut. One particular year I wasn't seeing the daylight activity that I normally do on that week because of the warm temperatures. So one night I decided to stay put after dark. Now I know I couldn't shoot but I wanted to listen and sure enough, well after dark the cut corn field came alive with deer running, grunting and I even heard a fight between two bucks....it confirmed that it was all happening, just not during daylight.

If the does bed and they will when it's warm, the bucks will bed right there with them.

Let's hope the weather turns cold...bad for sitting in a stand but great for deer activity.

I've been checking the forecast every day, and I'm getting pretty concerned as well. The weather last year was pretty warm, and like Rob said the daytime movement just wasn't what I thought it should be.

I always take several weeks off this time of year (leave started today!) And every year, I aggravate my wife with my complaining about the weather. Last year we had record high temps -- 88 degrees in November! And when it finally DID cool down somewhat, the wind and rain started up. Rob is right, the rut will still take place, but warm temps will suppress daytime activity.

Right now, I'm contending with a full moon as well.

I quick review of the long-term weather forecast shows next Friday with highs in the 40s and lows in the upper 20s. I've got a 3 day weekend of hunting in SW Wisconsin planned for then, so with any luck that weather prediction holds true and we get some good deer movement.

The weather here in ND has been rather aggravating also. It's been in the 50s and even 60s here recently, and raining most everyday. If it's not raining, the wind is blowing 30-40 mph. I was going to take Friday off from work but the forecast is calling for 30 mph winds and rain all day[:@]. Looks like the temps will finally cool off next week. Highs in the 30s and 40s with a chance of snow! Should be an exciting week in the woods.

Well ohio is definetly in the high of temps, it was like high 60' yesterday the 26th of october and today its 61 degrees right now at 1p.m!! I wish it was in the 30's. we have cloudy skies, variable winds, this friday will be into the 70's!! My day off, dad-gummit[:@][:@] I dont know, i am very concerned, i just may have to shoot a lesser deer to just get some meat!! It needs to cool down fast, however there have been some nice bucks taken already in warmer weather. I think if we stay near water and a food source, and maybe even a bedding area if we can get in there early enough we might still have a chance.

Mid 80's here, no deer activity at all. I have been on stand 10 times this seaon and have seen 1 deer. By far my worst start ever.

I'm heading for IL next week for 6 days. I'm praying for good weather.

I know you all are complaining but I hunt in Southwest Michigan about 1/2 an hour north of the Indiana/Michigan border (St Joseph County, MI). I was just thinking the same thing - it's way too warm for the rut. Then on Monday this week, a guy I work with said he watched a big 10 pt tend to 7 does in the field for about an hour. Tuesday I went hunting and took my 3 y/o daughter. We sat at the edge of the field in a pop-up blind; it gave me a good chance to witness the deer behavior (I was guessing as warm as the weather, the rut wouldn't be for a couple weeks). About an 30 mins before dark a nice size 2 1/2 year old buck came barrelling out of the woods chasing two does. He chased them around the field for the last half hour of daylight. Then this morning I went out and heard at least two bucks grunting in the swamp chasing does(anyway there was grunting and another deer running - go figure). Around 0930 I decided to do some ratteling an grunting sequences. At about 0940 I finished. At about 0955 a really nice 3 1/2 year old 9 point came in pissed off...Grunting (not tending a doe grunt - it was like get the hell outa here because I'm the MacDaddy), hair standing straight up, stiff legged, etc. His neck was bigger around than a basketball.
So, needless to say it's suppose to be 72 here tomorrow for a hight but, the RUT IS IN FULL SWING (believe it or not - 3 weeks ahead of last year).

OH yeh, I let the 9 pt walk....He'll be a monster next year.

well i agree with you on this one! and actually they are calling for cooler temps this weekend out in northern IL. hopefully you will be heading up this way. i have seen plenty of does but all of them have beengetting ready to bed down, and no buck movement unless it was at like 8:00pm-1:00am. driving home late at night i have seen some bucks. just not while in the stand...
