Ever step on a pheasant?
 

Just a little story for you guys. After and uneventful evening in the stand i was walking back to my truck with a hunting partner of mine. We were about 25 yards from the vehicles when we stepped right beside two ringnecks, they took off flying right beside us. We both definitly jumped for fear of our lives. As we were laughing i took another step and a third pheasant flew up towards my face, cackling. I screamed like a little school girl. After being worked up by the first two, that third one was just too much to handle. And luckily my friends dad was there at the vehicles watching all of it. hopefully they'll forget about it soon.

That brings back memories ,
I was crossing a picked cornfield one evening and stepped right in the middle of a covey of quail . I think I probably broke the standing high jump record that time ! [:o]

Another time I was crossing a clear cut where a poweline ran and busted a boss gobbler who was resting in the grass , he sounded like a WWII bomber taking off ! [&:]

Yeah fats I've stepped on a pheasant or two and a rabbit or two. It's amazing how close you can get to some things when you least expect it. I've had grouse that I have to beg to fly off, then you hunt them suckers, and they are gone in a flash!

I know exactly what you are talking about. I am from ND and it happens all the time here. The little suckers catch ya off guard and scare the living crap out of you.

Definatly gets the blood going.

A few years ago my hunting partner shot a bear with his bow. We gave the bear about a half hour before we started tracking it. The bear went down a hill into some thick brush, so I told him to nock an arrow just in case. He started getting nervous after I said that and started slowely into the brush. On about his 5th step he kicked up a hen Turkey. I turned and saw him cover close to 40 yards before his bow even hit the ground. Any olympic sprinter would have had a run for their money. I found him and then found his bear not 10 yards from where he broke the land speed recond. I am laughing my butt off just telling the story.:D:D

:DThat's a great story! I can invision it but not becasue I've ever stepped ona phesant. In my neck of the woods there are very, very few phesants. I have through the year come close to stepping on a grouse or 2 or 10. Some years they're every where and they sure do get the hart pounding when they flush from under your feet.

I wish I could have seen you do the school girl dance. I'm sure it was priceless:)

Lol, i sure hoped not to have been seen cleaning out my drawers when this has happened to me also. Those birds sure do have a way of catching you un-awares.

The other night I was walking my Siberian Huskey through the neighbors front pasture. As I was nearing the gate, the dog got really excited and I couldn't figure out why. Well, I just kept going and he (the dog) fell in beside me as if nothing had happened. Well, about 3 steps later this racoon jumped out of a hole about 6 inches from my foot right next to the dog. I dropped the leash and jumped over the fence hearing a loud growl and snap behind me. Turned around and there is the dog holding a still twitching racoon by the throat as if to say "See. There's a racoon right here". Stupid dog... [X(]
