Rocket Broadhead success with pics

Here is my first buck of 2004. Hoyt Cybertec, Goldtip arrows, Rocket Steelhead 100gr mechanical broadheads.

This was my first time using mechanical heads and the performance was outstanding. The arrow passed cleanly through the deer at 25 yards. I do have one complaint with these heads though: The threads on the brodhead are too short. I was not able to use the washer provided and observed damage to the arrow insert when the blades opened on impact. In my opinion, this is a serious design flaw. Has anyone else experienced this? For an upcoming blacktail hunting trip on Kodiak Island I will use the rocket 125 grain heads, the threads are longer.

Nice deer, I always thought Rocket made the best mech heads. I was just curious ,how much does a bear hunt on Kodiak Island cost? I was thingking of trying it in a coupple years when my kids are old enough to go.

First, Nice buck!!!!

As for the rockets. There is a compatibility problem with Gold Tip arrows and Rocket steelhead 100's. The threads are set pretty deep in Gold Tip inserts and the threaded shank is pretty short on the Rocket 100's. Put them together and you run into the probem you mentioned. Rocket Steelhead 100's will work fine with any other arrow type and Gold Tips are compatible with every other head out there. As you have seen shooting them without the metal washer will ruin your arrow as it acts as a stop for the back of the blades.

That said Rocket Steelheads are still my favorite expandable head. I have found that they penetrate as well as fixed heads. They absolutely blow through whitetails.

Nice deer,

I think with the rocket's they made the ferral of the broadhead stronger, but when they beefed that up they added weight, so to get it back to 100 grains they took off some threads. Mine didn't thread in very far either. Seems they were always loose.

I get the same results with a NAP shockwave, which screws in all the way.

gold tip arrows are NOT the only arrow that has happened to. i use the carbon express 3D selects and i shot a doe at aoubt 15yds i had the wahser on too, the blades cut right back into my furrel.
i'm back to my muzzy's. i not going to ruin an arrow everytime i kill a deer.

Congrats on a great buck! I also shoot a Hoyt TEC series and use the Steelhead 100s..... AWESOME combo! The Rocket Steelhead threads are on the short side for GoldTip inserts, for some reason other brands and companies don't seem to be a problem. However, because of the popularity of GT shafts Rocket will be extending the thread count on their Steelhead 100. They did manage to add a couple of more threads with their 100XP design already. Congrats again on a fine animal.

congrats on the great deer. As far as the heads go, you can buy a broadhead adapter ring that may do the trick.
