Button buck thinks he's a big boy...
Was able to get out hunting this morning and after about a half hour this little button buck comes wandering down the trail. He stops at a small pine tree that has some rubs on it and starts to chew on some branches and procedes to rub his buttons on this tree, this is all of about 5 yards from my stand. Twice he looked back and I was hoping that papa was was heading his way. It was not to be, but he never spied me or even thought that I was there. Kinda wish I had my camera handy as it would have made for a good picture. This little buck hung around for about 10 minutes or so then went on his way. He neve offered a good shot. but from the moment I saw what he was I had decided that he would live another day. Didn't see any thing else till I got back by the truck and there where a couple of does standing standing 5 yards behind it. Well it wasn't all that bad of of morning and can't wait till this afternoon...good luck to all...

RE: Button buck thinks he's a big boy...
I know what ya mean - watched a button buck wrestling w/a 5pt today for about half hour - it was great. Made it worth gettin up & going out today. Could have shot either about 100 times but no point in shootin those lil deer before the rut kicks in and gets the bigger ones movin and chasin does (my choice).
Keep having fun-thats what its all about good luck n good huntin |

RE: Button buck thinks he's a big boy...
It's amazing how instinctively they know how to react. Last week I had two button bucks come into me at the edge of a field and bed at 15 yards. They were great company for the evening hunt. They'd get up and mill around so I decided to tease them with calls just to get their reactions. I grunted and contact called to them occassionally and they'd look intently for this deer but at one point the one little button urinated and even rubbed his tarsal glands together....I had to smile and thought, 3 years little guy, 3 years.
