RE: Tree stand history?
Treestands, from what I have heard, were an idea brought back from soldiers that fought in the Pacific Theater in WWII. Japanese snipers constructed stands in the jungle to snipe American GI's as they made their way through the brush. The first portable stand that I am aware of was the Baker. There may be others before it, but this is the one I know of. From there companies such as Warren & Sweat, Amacker, Summit and others were born. Personally, the first treestand I owned was an Amacker Deer Thief that I still have. It was small, heavy, uncomfortable, loud, and I can't count how many hours I've spent searching the forest floor in the dark looking for a dropped wing nut.
Oh how far we have come. I'd like to see what information others have on this subject. Good post. |
