Hunting super thick stuff
 

I have been hunting this year on a neighbor's property that has phenominal potential. I've seen a few nice bucks including one very nice P&Y candidate. However, now that he has harvested the corn and cut the alfalfa, the activity in the field had diminished to just a few deer each evening.

The woods bordering this field is mostly a mixture of thick stands of saplings, briars, vines and brush. The landowner and I were back in there a few weeks ago looking for a doe and the sign was awesome. There were rubs everywhere, trails everywhere, scrapes, but no real concentration of where to set up. It's super thick -- snakes have to go around this stuff. There are a few trees I can get up in, but the lanes would be nearly impossible to clear because much of the obstruction goes higher than I can reach. Getting in there will be noisy, and it's really just a roll of the dice where to set up. Any ideas?

BTW--early MZ season opens here next week for 1 1/2 weeks so the field will definitely not be an option then. I'll be bowhunting only.

I have some of that thick stuff on my property and I've found two ways that work well for me. The first is to find travel routes to and from that thick area and setup a stand along the way. The second (which is my preference) is to hunt from the ground. I've worked my way into the thick stuff and found some good cover to hide in.

I find what JeramyK says to be the only options too. I have the same problem/opportunity you do DaveH, and i need to get back in there and do it without waking up the whole neighborhood.
