Both of these deer are the same age....just a matter of genetics....
Hard to tell the deer's age unless you measure their jaw bone....There is a special tool for that.

Just a random shot of the deer .........the buck closest to the camera is 2 years old....The does are 2 years old.....The smallest fawns were born this Spring...

the two bucks in front are in velvet this spring.....
they are 2 years old
the racks of most bucks tend to peak at about 5-7 years of age...then their size and shape starts to shrink, and / or become abnormal....typically, not always.....

Thanks Sunset. These pics don't help much though. What would be good are broadside shots of bucks in winter coat with hardened antlers. The early season bucks don't look anything like what comes past our stands. Thanks again.

Well picky picky picky poo LOL......:D
Hard to tell ages in the wild....genetics are so different....until they are aged with that jaw bone aging tool, teeth size....etc.
I'll keep taking pics of the ones here on our farm. May help a little. Since we at least know their ages.:)

I saw a post on here a couple years ago that had bucks at different ages in the wild. A lot of folks can tell from body weight/shape; I'm just not one of them.:D

you're right on the body /weight thing....that is definetly a determiner....but, here's an example of it being really tuff to tell.....these two are the same age......

No offense dude, but it looks like those deer are in a small acre enclosure with no cover. I would rather not compare them to wild deer.

Well, for one thing, I'm not a dude.....and they do have cover, you can't see the entire area from these pics....... How do you know where these deer are from? I can't tell the difference from a wild deer to a domesticated deer by looks:).........I was just trying to answer your question....

No offense taken:)
