Hunting the Prairies...

Heya, I'm up here in the heart of Alberta. Farm land as far as one can see.

This is my first year bowhunting, I've been givin it a try with limited success, Just wondering if anyone has a few lil pointers that could start me off in the right direction.

The land I have permission to hunt is mostly farmland... fields of wheat/barley/canola, the odd field with standing crop still. In these fields, there is bush. Not very big, but it can get pretty think once you're off the deer trails.

Another thing is that there is a small creek that courses it's way across the property. The creek itself, maybe 10 yards wide in some places. The banks and about 20 yards from the edge of the water is all untouched. Small thick bushes and high grass...

Me and my buddy have tried sitting in spots during the morning on the inside of the stand of trees we thought the deer might come to bed down, in the afternoon we slowly made our way around the river and peering into small bluffs of trees in the field to see if we could spot any deer or even jump some. We haven't had the chance yet to try evening.

Anything is helpful, thnx ^^

RE: Hunting the Prairies...

Sounds identical to where I hunt. Flat open agriculture land with a creek running through.

Its enough to drive me crazy figuring out how to get close enough to these deer. But the bucks are huge and will be well worth it when it does pay off.

I'm waiting for the chasing phase when the bucks will be cruising the creek looking for does. Good news is, the deer here are very easy to pattern as I can see them for 2 miles in every direction.
