Average shot distance

I was going thru my deer kills with a bow where I keep track of shot distance, vitals hit, and distance travelled after shot. My average shot distance for bucks is 11.7 yds, does is 12.6 and overall average is 12.2 yds.
Does anyone else keep track of things like this?

Heck, I have a hard enough time remembering where I put my socks. I do think it's interesting just the same, and would have to say my average deer harvest would be in the 25 yard range. The most recent hover around 20, but all but one past year have been a tad farther. As far as what was hit... sure, I do a field "autopsy" but I never record the data.

My average shot is 20 yards. I'm not sure about traveling distance. I had to guess, I'd say BEFORE my new Bowtech Patriot and big cutting expandables I'd my average travel distance was 150 to 300 yards. Since getting my Bowtech Patriot and 1 1/2" to 1 3/4" expandables I'd say my average is about 45 or maybe 50 yards.

Good Luck!

I'd say my average shot is in the 15 yard range. I can remember only one deer I took that was over 20 yards. I like them close because it really improves your chances for a clean kill.

my average bow kill is around 10-12yds. Ive only shot one that was close to 20yds, all the rest have been between 6-15yds.
i can hit a target all day at 40-50yds but I just dont feal safe shooting a deer past 20yds. too much can happen in that much time/distance to guarentee a clean kill. just my opinion though...

2 days ago I walked the woods next to my house and walked to within 35 yds of an oblivious doe standing broadside. i drew back and held the pin right behind her should for about 15seconds and just couldnt do it. 5 minutes later I walked into my yard and drilled the 3d target tight behind the shoulder from 40. nothing against guys who shoot further but I just dont feel comfortable

My records aren't quite as detailed as yours but on average my shots are within 20 yards. I believe this is primarily due to my setups. As a rule if a deer is at 30 yards he'll come within 20 yards before he passed and statrs going away.

I've been keeping records since I started hunting in 1966. My average bowshot has been 18 yds. and my average rifle shot has been 29 yds. (You can really reach out with a 7MM!). I've lways found it nice to look back and see the details of what I got, where, when, how and what happened after the shot.

My average bow shot is about 15-18 yards on deer. My bow is set up w/1 pin I set at 25 yards for hunting. I practice at 40 yards tho. If I were to guess I'd say my bow shot deer go about 50 - 80 yards on the average. My slug gun shot deer go about 3-10 feet-ave shot about 60 yards, My rifle deer ave. somewhere between 3 feet and 100 yards for some reason- w/ ave shot between 80 & 150 yards. For some reason my gun deer shot at close ranges run further than those taken at longer ranges i've noticed.

I havn't kept track but I would say there has only been a small amount over 20 yards and only one over 30 yards.

I think stand placement has as much to do with shot distance as anything. I tend to place my stand in funnel areas where you know where the deer will be. This year we have several stands in fence rows or edge of timbers. The shots will still be under 30 yards but the stand I was in last night will be 25 to 30 yard shots.
