Opening Day Weather...(WV)
 

I have been watching the weather the last few days, and things are looking up. Looks like a chance of rain towards the end of the week, and a slight chance friday with a high of 55 and a low of 30. Then Saturday(opening day) the weather is supposed to carry over from Friday with a high of 56 and a low of 30. Should definetly be a cool opening day.

If most WV hunters are like myself, then we are dying to get into a tree this Saturday. Looks like the weather will be in the good if the rain tapers off around Thursday. :D

I am a West Virginian and hunt in Fayette County. I am just like you. Itching to get out there. I wait for it all year long and I wish it opened yesterday. I have a couple places scouted out and anxious to get in them and see what they produce. I am loving this weather. I hope that this weather does carry all the way into the weekend and definately hitting that 30 mark in the lows. That would make for an awesome opening morning for a change as it seems the last few years have been hot. Just a few days to go and I am already making sure my stuff is ready to go. Not just my bow but all my gear. Good Luck

Same here. I have checked and double checked my pack, just to make sure I got everything.....can't wait till Saturday. But I'm figuring on getting some squirrel tomorrow since it's supposed to frost tonight.

I just need to be in the woods...:)

I am pumped. 3 more days at work and then my vacation starts. I'm off next week and I'm lookin to fill 3 tags and where I hunt there are plenty of deer. According to accuweather opening day looks like it's gonna be good. Almost Heaven is gonna be pure heaven in the Mountain State. I've been bowhunting now for nearly 26 years and I still like a kid on Christmas morning. Ya gotta love it. Happy Huntin.......

I can not wait. The weather is looking great. 30% chance of showers, meaning a good overcast day to keep deer moving.

I live in Kanawha Co., but I am traveling to Ritchie to hunt Saturday. I probably will not be able to sleep a bit Friday night.

I wish WV would get on the ball and open the season before it's half over. It kills me to hear about guys hunting for a month or more before WV opens. Hopefully it will be a good day weather wise. Good luck guys:D

I'll be 25' up in Braxton county this Saturday. Hopin to bag a nice-un.

I don't want to sound like a grump or jerk...but the youth squirrel hunt is a joke. How much hunting pressure is there during squirrel season that they need to take away a WEEK from bowhunters?

I'm all for the youth seasons...but WV could surely start squirrel season in early sept or even august. WV has the shortest bow season that I am aware of...and last year it got a week shorter.

Exactly Wv hunter, ive been hearing hunting stories from all my buddies at work in Va who are already bowhunting. Not too mention the ones on here from states that have been open for a long long time aready. It seems like every year the WV dnr is giving us more chances to take does, maybe if they open archery season in september more people would get out and take some more.

Got my bow out of the shop yesterday cant wait to get out. I have to work saturday night thru tuesday so i probably wont get out to thursday.

Here's hoping that the weather keeps them active towards the end of next week as well.
Due to limited vacation time left, I will not be able to hit the woods (Nicholas County) until
next wednsday. Then it's hunt thru Saturday , and back to the mailroute <g>.

This will be my first time hunting out of a climber... and due to my moderate fear of heights
I hope I can manage to get at least 8 or 9 feet off of the ground before panic sets in <g>.

Goodluck to all you guys here in WV Saturday. I can't wait to get out in Calhoun County, and get in the stand Saturday morning. Yesterday after the hard rain, the fields were filled with deer, and I even seen several nice buck's. I've also got several on the Trail Cam. Hopefully the weather stays cool all day Saturday like it's predicted to.

Just two more days! :D

I'm taking down the wife and kids this weekend for the first time and might pop a few squirrels. I told my wife I might go bowhunting in the morning of the opener and she said "no way," even though I'd be back right after they wake up and call me on the two way radio. Oh well, I'll be back to hunt several days next week anyhow.

Well guys there's some bad news now the weather channel is saying that the wind is going to blow around 30 mph on saturday,that sucks,so you guys strap in your tree good and tight and good luck.

I saw that Gutshot...I hate wind. Can't hear, and everything is moving but the deer. I may try some stalking.

That's not good. Although my 6pt was shot last year on a windy day. Either way I'll be on stand Saturday morning.

Gutshot, you are only 25-30 miles from me. I live just north of you on I-79 at the Big Otter exit.

add me to the list of those who would like to get that extra week back. third saturday is way to late. If your going to keep the youth hunt, make it a week earlier, dont take away bow season.

ill be in the tree saturday. hopefully the wind will be calm. the stand i was plannin on hunting is in a rather skinny tree. well any morning in the woods is better than a morning not in it.

hey last i saw (which was Thursday at 8:30pm) they knocked the wind down from 30 mph to 16 on saturday. still this isn't the best, but better than 30!!!

but if the wind dies down it should make for a great morning!

Friday looks like a high of 53, with a low of 40......30% chance of scattered showers with wind.....


Saturday looksl ike a high of 50, with a low of 30.....50% chance of AM showers with wind around 10mph.....





So it looks like I'll be on stand all day. Goodluck to everyone that get's the chance to be out in the woods.

The weather looks like it is getting better all the time.

I guess I will be driving right past you tomorrow night HighCountry. I get off I-79 at Big Otter to go to Smithville.

Hello WV boy. It sounds like everyone has the fever. Good luck to everyone during this hunting season. If you guys get a deer post a pic. I am a McDowell county hunter and will not get to hunt this year. I would enjoy seeing pics of the nice deer taken and hear about the stories. I am stuck in Iraq and only get to read about all the hunting. Well I do get to hunt Iraqi bad guys. Ha Ha.

WV8Point, I live exactly 5 miles North on Rt. 16 when you get off at Big Otter. I believe you have to go south on 16 right? Either way, you will be close to where I live when you get off the Big Otter exit.

If you do happen to go north, my house is on the left up on the bank. There is a huge 20X20 building next to the house. You will probaly see a truck with a four wheeler in the back by this evening as I prepare for tomorrow's hunt. :D

Well guys as of right now the weather channel is still saying 20-30 mph [:@]. But come daylight I'll still be perched high on a ridge in Roane County. Y'all hang on and be careful.

IF tomorrow's opener is anything like today, I will be satisfied. Nice and cool at 48 degree's right now, and alittle wind. :D


I figured you would be at the black walnut festival if you were in Roane County. ;)

No Black Walnut Festival for me but I'm hunting public land so I hope that that's where all of other hunters will be. Where do you hunt? Have you ever hunted the Wallback WMA?

I took my first ever deer with a bow on the Wallback WMA. Right now they are building a huge lake on it! So I didn't even think of hunting over there yet. All in all we have taken several good buck's from the WMA. Not a bad place to hunt at all.


I will be hunting right at big otter on Sunday. Actually about 8 of us will be there driving deer.
