Almost blown off stand, but made the shot

Friday evening was very windy with gusts over 40mph. I decided to hunt a small ridge with the valley below being fairly seclueded from the wind. At 615 I spotted a nice doe 60 yards to the right and closing fast. I had to stand and turn for the shot but was on a cheappo ladder stand with a six by twenty inch foot rest. As I was trying to turn a gust of wind caught me and blew be back. Luckily for me I had my left hand free and as falling back I grabbed the seat of the stand and pulled myself back. The doe was now right behind some brush and only a few yards from my shooting lane. While leaning into the wind to keep my balance I drew back and yelled out a bleat as loud as I could to be heard above the wind. She stopped right in my lane and my shot was true. She only went forty yards before crashing. Pumped up with the excitement of it all I did not realize what a close call I had. Safety harness is going on for now on................dabow

RE: Almost blown off stand, but made the shot

I hear you about the wind. I am from WI to and last friday was harsh. I spent most of the evening sitting on my platform as it was hard to stand and keep my balance the wind was so strong. I was almost hoping Mr. Big didn't come by that evening as I wasn't to sure of getting off a good shot in all that wind!
