Get a bear rug or 3/4 mount?????
 

I have a problem. I just got a 250 lb black bear, dressed, with an absolutely perfect coat. It would make an excellent rug. All the people I have talked to, say, get a 3/4 mount because of the nice white patch it has. I would like to hear from some people and hear what you guys would have done.

In my area, full mounts are about the same prize of full size mounts. I went full size walking on a rock base mount with my archery bear and I would suggest the same. I'm not a big fan of 3/4 mounts. My next bear will be a rug. I'm also not a fan of standing on hind leg mounts for bears although some prefer them, and I'm not a fan of a growling black bear mount, it's unnatural...IMHO but like Cardeer said, it's your money, your choice.

Money is not an option with my first archery bear. I would like a rug, but I heard "v-necks" are somewhat rare. That is the only reason I am considering a mount, to show off the v-neck. Also, to show it off it would have to be somewhat upright, which I am not a big fan of either. It`s a tough choice.

I hear what your saying dcowboys...I wish (no dig camera yet). I could post a pic of my mount. It's on it's hind legs with it's front legs slightly elevated on a fake rock base and the chest is easily seen. I'm not fortunate enough to have a Vneck but it would be viewable with this type of mount. Check with your taxidermist for the mold...you'll see the one I mean.

I have a rug and a full mount. They're both great. Go with what you think will look best in your game room.

I personally like the full mounts...:D

I was thinking of getting mine into a rug with the head and paws mounted. It cost almost as much as a full mount so I got the full mount. It was my first, and so far only, Pennsylvania bear so I decided to spend the money. Mine is walking on all fours with one paw up (like he's in mid-stride), looking to the left and his face is kind of a cross between a scent-check and a pant. It shows off the teeth, looks mean but is not unnatural. Congrats on the bear.

I say a full mount. I'm going after my first archery bear this year, and if I get lucky and score, I plan on a full mount.
