what call?
what call is most effective for bringing deer in from far away? would a fawn distress call do the job?
thanks, Shootem |
RE: what call?
Ill tell you what I do.
I try not to call the first couple weeks of season. I don't want any deer in the area to know i'm in there. BUT I would not use a fawn in distress call, If deer do come in they will be looking for danger and will probably hang up about 40 yards out. I would try a fawn bleat. Make it quiet, Like a browsing fawn walking around looking for its mama. Nearby does will feed towards the call. |
RE: what call?
I agree with RBBH reguarding the fawn in distress call. It's great for preadator hunting but it will alarm deer. This time of year (first couple weeks of Oct.) bucks are most likely to respond to immature buck calls. Check out deer talk 101. I did a bit of grunting a ratteling on Thursday and could hear a buck thrashing a tree out about 100 yards from my stand. I was in a hollow so I never got a look at him but it definately got his attantion.
