I have the worst luck
 

Friday was the opener for Keowee WMA in upstate SC. I was setup on an awesome trail that looked more like a cowpath. My wife read an article in one of my hunting magazines that said you should always take a cell phone in case of some emergency. So reluctantly I agreed to take one. It was a new phone and I had it on vibrate but didn't know it wasn't totally silent when a text message came in:(. Anyways, wouldn't you know at right at 7:00 a big doe walked out at 30 yards and stopped right in the middle of my shooting lane. Just as I picked up my bow, and clipped on, the darn phone started going off. The doe looked straight up at me and started to stomp her foot. I froze. A moment later it started beeping again. I guess this was too much for her and she took off...needless to say I almost threw it out after her. When I got home we had a heart to heart about not texting me right at "primetime"...oh well, maybe next time...

I always turn my cell off when i head from the car ..... for that same reason :p been there done that :)

BTW, the text was "Hope you're seeing some deer, honey"...it was well intentioned but at a bad time. I felt bad for fussing at her later b/c she was trying to be sweet and didn't know...oh well, maybe next time...

You can just put the phone on silent. It won't make any noise if you get a call or a text message!

The cell phone is an important thing to have with you while in the woods. You need it to call your buddys to help with that long drag out;)

I turn mine off when I am in the woods, because honestly when I am out there I don't want to talk to anyone. I turn it on every couple of hours to check for messages though and then turn it back off.
