All of the above. Depends on the sun, the deer, the tree, the cover, etc etc etc. I do whatever I figure is best for each particular situation. Both my climbers allow you to face the tree or sit with your back to it. I stand a LOT. When I"m standing I generally put one shoulder or the other against the tree but not always. Sometimes I just put my back to it.

I have always stood with my back to the tree...never really even thought about facing the tree since I have a ladder stand though. This year all I have been doing is hunting the ground

I too stand with my back too the tree when not sitting beside that is part of my cover and I setup accordingly..

I hunt areas where it is likely to get deer from many directions. I sit with my back to the tree for awhile, then I'll stand for awhile, then turn and hug the tree for awhile. When I get tired I change position. I like the "stand and hug the tree" position, it really breaks your outline and you can move a little and be undetected. I usually hear the deer coming before I see them anyway.
