HUNTING IN THE RAIN ??????

I always hunt the same, but with my record that doesnt mean squat :) Only time I wont hunt is in a down pour/storm.

RE: HUNTING IN THE RAIN ??????
Rain alone influences hunters more than deer.
If it is a driving rain, that may be another matter. I have heard that deer "know" if the rain will be long in duration, and if it will be, they may just feed anyway. They're going to get rained on no matter where they are. Passing showers, or steady drizzles have little to no effect. Wind and rain is different in my mind. I think it keeps them holed up a bit. Of course they have to be somewhere, so thats a good time to hunt standing corn if you can. Sneak through the field, perpendicular to the rows, looking both ways for bedded deer as you go. |
RE: HUNTING IN THE RAIN ??????
I've found many times, especially during the early season that a light rain actually seems to increase deer movemnet and relax them a bit. Generally I hunt as if the rain doesn't mean a thing to the deer, it's just another day in the life of Mr. Whitetail..... unless it's a hard downpour. Just remember to use extra caution with shot selection and angle, don't plan on sorting out much of a blood trail in any sort of rain. Good luck and good shootin'

Ditto to what Cornfield said, have had some of my better hunts in a lite rain, but not a downpour though

RE: HUNTING IN THE RAIN ??????
killed my big eight point in the fog and in a light rain, it was awesome, if it rains hard and your out, sneak into the cedars and set up shop and wait for some deer to look for shelter there.

I don't know about anyone elses hunting areas, but in mine deer tend to feed heavily before, during, and after a rainstorm. When i hear that it's going to rain I make sure I'm in a stand overlooking an alfalfa field. :)

RE: HUNTING IN THE RAIN ??????
During rifle season I'll hunt in light rain. In archery I will not hunt if there is a constant rain or down pour. I'm not going to chance a shot on a wall hanger just to have it walk away and die where I can't find it because there is no blood trail to follow. There's always another day.
