Anyone a one-pin shooter?
For many years now, I have only used one site pin. It is set for dead-on at 25 yards and I practice at ranges from 15-30. I generally won’t shoot much past 25 yards so the difference in impact at 30 yards is not really an issue even though I do practice at that range and know where to hold. I just find that simple is better for hunting. Does anyone else shoot this way?

RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
:) I love to shoot this way too, less worry about pins busting and i also set mine at 25 yards.Really keeps it simple and accurate.
Good luck to you this season. |
RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
one pin , better sight picture, nothing in the way to clutter the sight picture on the animal but the one pin center on the vitals.

RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
I also use one pin - set at 22 yards, which is the furthest I've ever shot at a whitetail.
|
RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
I use a red dot scope so it's 1 dot. I'm now convinced it's the way to go.
|
RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
I switched to 1 pin after a bad experience with a multiple pin sight and i think i'm gonna stay with one pin.It sure does simplify things when you gotta make a quick shot while fighting the ole buck fever.

RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
i shoot one pin as well set at 23 which is about as far a shot as i'll get from my stand, it makes it much less complicated as you dont have to judge distances and try to choose a pin to use.

RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
For years I hunted with a 3 pin setup and last January after the season I decided that i really only need one pin, so I purchased a Cobra Easy Slide Extreme. It's a moveable sight. I have markings set for 20yds all the way up to 80yds in 10yd increments. I lock it down between the 20yd and 30yd markings for hunting and I am convinced this is a better way. I have a better sight picture, I'm more accurate, and I just plain like it! Also, If I see a buck at 45-60yds and there is no wind and obstruction then I can quietly move the setting to what I need quickly and shoot! However, if you don't like the moveable sights available out there you can do very well by removing all your pins except one and sight it in for 20 or 25yds (whichever you prefer) and hit deer sized game vitals easily up to 30yds with no problem. Good luck!

I shoot one pin also. It's less to think about during the moment of truth!!! 24hrs to go until I can hunt!!!!!!

RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
I shoot 1 pin too. I have markings for 20, 30, and 40 yards to adjust it too, but typically leave it set at 20. I know how high to hold to shoot up to 30 yards when its set at 20. Funny thing, which was a lesson to remind me to always check my gear, also gave me a little confidence on small blunders regarding the sight setting/distance judging. I took an archery proficiency exam which is necessary to hunt certain areas in RI. Its an easy test, you need to get 3 out of 5 broadhead tipped arrows in the vitals of a deer silhouet (sp?) at 20 yards. I had done some messing with my rest since the last time I tuned my bow with broadheads, and didnt have time to retune before the test, so I figured I'd just cross my fingers and hope for the best (dont really need the test anyway for where I hunt, just wanted to keep options open.) Well, I get up to the line and shoot, and cant believe how high I'm hitting compared to where I aimed. I grouped 4 arrows pretty high, and thought, wow, I really need to tune my bow for these broadheads. I overcompensated and sent one arrow pretty low on the last shot. Well, turns out I'm so used to shooting at 20 yards, I forgot that the last time I shot I left my sight set at 30! guess thats the equivalent of using the 30 yard pin for a 20 yard shot. Anyway, the 4 arrows that I grouped still hit the vitals. Lets me know that my bow is flat shooting enough to allow for some errors in judging distance.

RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
I started with one pin. When I got my new bow & sight it had 5 pins. I just started shooting, and was having one heck of a time adjusting to all the pins. Finally, I took all but one out and what a difference. I have been shooting great (with other adjustments, too).
I was thinking of putting one more in for 30 yards and did the other day. I don't know if it will stay. I really don't like the 2 pins in my peep. Like someone said - just more clutter. I feel I'll go with 1 pin for 20 yds. and aim about 9" high for 30 yds. (that seems to be the drop) if I ever get a decent 30 yd. shot (probably won't ever take one). |
RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
I too only have one pin and its set for 20 yards. I know my limits and I would not shoot at a deer over 25 yards. Simpler is better and the one pin works for me
|
RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
I went to a single pin last season but I'm back to a multi pin this year. I like the single pin for target shooting but decided it was best to keep a multi pin setup for hunting.
|
RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
I only shoot with 1 pin also, I practice out to 40 yards but set my pin at 25 yards for hunting. In my stand locations, the longest shot is 30 yards. I've never shot a deer with a bow that was more than 17 yards away.

RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
Only one pin here also, sighted in at 25 yards and can comfortably out to 30 without any problem. Mine is a chart/green color and it is good and bright in low light conditions.
|
RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
One pin, you bet! Its the only way to go if you have a fairly fast set-up and shoot 35 yards and less. I keep my max distance at 30 yards.
Good Luck! |
RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
i also use one thats the way have always hunted.good luck to all this year.and godbless us.
|
RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
I am a one pinner also. Switched to it last year and love it. Can't go back. I have it set at 23 yards and shoot to 40.
|
RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
one pin and finger shooter as simple as it gets and season opens in the morning
|
RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
I have 3 pins set up for distances of 10-20 and 25 and 25+....but i dont go much further than 25. So i just use my first two pins. It would probably be good to get rid of the other eh?
|
RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
One pin here, always have, always will. I've heard the horror stories of people getting confused about which pins to use during a case of buck fever and I just started out using one. (been shooting for 15 years now) It cuts down on the excuses if I do miss.
I shoot a 75lb, 28" mathews Sq2 and it shoots flat from 10-30yds. If longer shots are presented I just compensate. I don't know about you guys but, 30yds. when your up in a tree seems like a mile to me. |
RE: Anyone a one-pin shooter?
Yep, ever since shooting a one pin moveable sight in 3D many yaers ago, I have never gone back to multiple pins. I currently shoot a Vital Bow Gear ProSlide set at 25 yards and am confident with this pin setting out to 32-33 yards. Why clutter the sight picture with a bunch of pins? As fast as most of todays compounds shot, I can't really see the need to have a 20,30,40,50,60 yard setup. First of all I don't know of many people capable of shooting ananimal at 40 yards much less 60, and almost anyone should be able to use a 1 pin setup out to 30 yards.
