When do you think I should start seeing rubs? I live in southern Illinois.

They say dominate bucks usually 2 and a half or older will make the first rubs. I would suspect anytime now.

I haven't looked to hard for them yet since I try to stay out of the timber as much as I can this time of year, but I would expect that they are out there. I've heard of a few guys finding them. Like Tribal said, the rubs that are there now are probably from a dominate buck.

I went to get my film out of my cameras today and came across a cedar about 5" to 5 1/2" in diameter rubbed on. There were also a few saplings torn to shreds around it. I thought real hard about putting my game cam around there but I don't want to spook him out. So I am going to hold off until Oct 1, I would rather see him on my wall than a picture of him alive and alone without me in it. So, to answer your question, there should already be rubs in your area since I am further south than you.

I live in Michigan and I already have lots of rubs. Obviously there not rutting rubs but rather they are form shedding their velvet.
