If I got service like that, I would drive 300 miles out of my way to keep from giving them my business.

In the guy's defense - what little defense you can give someone who lets substandard work go out the door[:@] - pro shops are snowed under around this time of year. The smart thing to do is start getting your stuff together before the 'bowhunters' start coming out of the woodwork trying to get all their crap together at the last minute. I'd bet the arrows the guy made in June or July, when he didn't have so many interruptions, are done much better than the ones he made last week.

I'm another member of the do-it-yourself clan. There are very few others I trust to work on my bows or make my arrows. If you want it done right...

I'm with Mr. Fritz. Do it yourself. There is no better time like the present to learn how to do the work at home. It's a way to "stretch out" the season. The more work you do on your own the more tinkering time is spent. Eventually it'll become a full time hobby and consume every "free"moment of your life

I took my bow too him last year and had him tune it, he puts the rest a good bit lower than the knockin point so my arrow sets on a pretty serious angle
I can understand wanting a bow tuned but here's my perspective. based upon what you've told me I don't doubt this guy probably knows his stuff.
He is an amazing shot i could only wish to shoot as well as him and he has taken many great bucks and tons of turkeys with his bow. He really seems to know his stuff
Most people don't shoot well shooting an untuned bow (I know there are exceptions don't flame me) so I think he tuned yourbow to him. If his anchor points, grip, draw length are diffrent then yours you'll end up with a perfectly tuned bow to the person who tuned it. At first it can be a process but it gets easier the more you do your own work. IMO doing your own work is the best way to tune in your bow to you.

I've always been a do it your selfer and fletching arrows is one of the easier things you can do to save time and money. I can remember the first deer I took with an arrow I fletched myself. It made it just that much more special.
