Interesting Camo Story
 

I made a trip to Cabelas this weekend to pick up a few thing before season. There was a rep from Double Bull blinds there and I was talking to him about the blinds since my dad and I are kinda thinking of getting one soon.

We got on the subject of camo patterns. As you know, Double Bull uses Predator Deception on its blinds. He began to explain how, in the early going at Double Bull, they offered their blinds in in Predator and also in a Realtree pattern. He said they began to notice over time that they were getting dozens and dozens of success pictures from happy customers and 80% or better of them were from Deception patterned blinds. This persuaded them to eliminate the Realtree pattern and stick with just Deception. I realize this guy is trying to sell blinds, but this has me interested.

Also, he explained how you can shoot through the thin mesh in their windows, even with mechanical heads. The reason they did this, is from their research, they noticed that deer tend to not tolerate the black holes from open windows in a blind very well. Covering them with very thin camo netting helps eliminate the black holes. He did say that for some reason, turkeys didn't mind the open windows much.

Just thought the conversation was interesting. Something to think about.

Speaking of Predator camo i just noticed the other day that the local Gander Mtn is carrying it in Deception now.


I got my set (Fall Grey) at Cabelas, except for the headnet that i had to order since they dont carry them in the store.

That doesn't surprise me.....patterns like Predator and ASAT have always been better at breaking up your outline than Realtree or Mossy Oak or the likes.

I agree with Rob. Those patterns have worked, people are just afraid to stray from the mainstream. I like the ASAT pattern myself.:)
