What time...
This is my first year bow hunting. I was wondering, what time do you all get out in the stand? In the past I could go any time of the day and do fine, but this is a new game. Ive been getting out at 5am recently since its on my own property. Kinda hoping to be out early enough I dont ruin a day jumpin em.
Any opinions? |
RE: What time...
I've always heard you should go in about an hour before it gets light - not an hour before sunrise. Where I live it does get light an hour before the sun comes up - but we have to go by what regulations PA has anyway...

RE: What time...
I use a climber and want to be at my tree 1.5 hrs before first light. That gives me plenty of time to get up the tree with minimal noise. Also, it gives me a little over an hour to let the woods get back to normal if I spook anything.

RE: What time...
Thanks for the advice :)
Just came back in. I know its early. My wife let the little dog out of the house and she came looking for me. Saw a few does jump on my way out. Ill do things right later today and tommorrow by putting the dog in the pen. Thanks Stryker777 |
RE: What time...
To be honest, if I'm not hunting a bedding area, I am not too anal about getting out early. I make sure to be on stand at least 20-30 minutes before first light. I just try to be as quiet as possible. I do get in well before light...just not hours like some folks.
I have killed a lot of deer bowhunting, and very few of them have come before 8am. Seems I do well at about 8-9am, and also in the last hour of daylight. That's just my experience, though. |
RE: What time...
I'm in my stand an hour before legal shooting time. It's nice to have the sun come up and find deer under your stand. I,ve had them walking by under me when it was still to dark to tell if they were bucks or does.

RE: What time...
I would rather be onstand 5 hours BEFORE first light, then 5 minutes AFTER!!! That said, I try to be on stand with everything set 1 hour before first light.

RE: What time...
Thanks Pro-Line,
I think Ill take your advice this evening. I have a lick and a water hole they normally head to in the evening. When I was rifle hunting Id get out around 1430-1500 and the dang things always came within 20 yards of me, thus the decision to go bow. I hunt for the food and we have plenty of does in the area to choose from. This morning I decided to try something different and go to another area that is kinda a plateau they bed in with a dry creek on 3 sides. Guess I should get there a little earlier than other places? I guess more than anything make sure the dogs dont come looking for me at 8am lol. By the way, Im very new in this. Have a XI Demon I got a while back and never had the time to get practice before this year. Im using beaman ics500 carbons and tri-loc heads. Im sure this is probably a mediocre setup but I have practiced from 20 yards to 50. 20-30 its dead on, 40-50 Im always within a 6 inch pattern around center. I havent got alot of experience with it, so I dont know how long the equipment will be accurate. Any recommendations on that? Thank for all the help Stryker777 |
RE: What time...
I normaly try to be in my stand 1 hr + before first light ,thats at least 1 1/2 hr before sun rise . BUT I have 1 stand that I get there 2 1/2 hrs before sunrise so not to bump deer.
