None dropping here - we do not have any oaks on the property.

But Sept1 - Mid October is about right for NY too.

Look at it this way ,
a deer gorging on acorns now will be that much fatter when you stick it . They will also be keying on less available food sources later .

I was putting up a new stand this weekend and there are acorns dropping all over the place around Luther Michigan. I also noticed there is a bumper crop of acorns this year and the trees are really loaded. Autumn olives and witch hazels are also loaded to the hilt this year and are also a little early. I have a bunch of autumn olives by my stand and the bears are just in heaven right now......sure hope they move on before season.

Good Luck

The acorns aren't early .... the seasons open LATE! [8D]

Dropping at my house too...doesn't look like a bumper crop, but at least we got some. The Cicada's did a number on our hardwoods this summer, wiped out alot of acorns.

Acorns and beech nuts have been falling in Maine and New Hampshire for better than 3 weeks now. It seems early to me but the deer don't seem to be bothering with them yet. It may be because all I have on my properties are red oaks but they are what is predominately in the area I hunt. As the other food sources dry up I'm sure I'll see more sign around the mast producing trees. 2.5 days and counting;)

Somehow I think the deer know that the acorns will be there through the winter , and concentrate on other foods right now, such as: berries and grasses which will be gone soon.

I agree Jerseyhunter. As the other food sources dry up the deer will know where to go.
