I'm doing an argumentative essay on why anti-hunters and animal rights people are wrong for the way they view hunting. I was wondering if someone could tell me all of the points they try to make, so I can come up with counterarguments.

The most important part should be the emphasis on management of food sources vs. the carrying capacity of the deer herds. If we didn't hunt, then most of the population would starve to death as well as an incredible economic impact to humans with destruction of crops(you probably couldn't afford a salad without the killing of deer). One distinct example is the state hunt on Oak Mountain State Park in Birmingham Alabama this past year. This state park is about 10000 acres and it has a distinct browse line throughout the park. State officials knew that if some deer were not killed, then they would start dying off from starvation. The most important thing as a hunter is to realize that we are not Hunting just to kill, but to be a part of a bigger picture for the health of all deer herds in America. This is the reason for liberal bag limits in heavy population states with mild winters and low bag limits in states that have harch winters that increase herd kills. But if you search the web you will find some good statistics to back up your research and conclusions. Good luck!

Also states that are overpopulated with deer have issues with auto/deer collisions as well as the destruction deer do to property(decorative shrubs).

Remember that no one is completely wrong on their viewpoint. Using words such as skewed, uninformed etc can help you explain your viewpoint while not looking like you are passing blame. Very important as not many profs are hunters.

I would make sure to include the billions of dollars that hunting licenses bring into the government every year, and how that money is used to save land, water, and animals from sure destruction. Hunters who care are the reason why tree-huggers have trees to hug. Without us they would lose much of the very nature that they get to use for free.

Good luck. I wrote a pro-gun essay in college and my prof held the opposite view so he gave me a bad grade on it. Everything was as laid out and thought out as could be. We went round and round over that grade.

Also stress the point that hunters fund well over 90% (that is fact but I don't know where to send you for bibliography) of wildlife habitat. Generally through progams like DU, RMEF, etc.

Yea, my wife is crazy about the $3000 or so that I spend every year, the countless days away from home, and the vacations revolving around my hunting schedule:eek:[&:]
