being prepeard for opening day

Hay guys i do this every year and want to make sure u all are ready for opening day now...i am not talking about your woods u hunt in or what tree u will clim or hunting the wind i am talking about being prepeard for the worst and thats a non working bow and tree stand and safty harness.

# 1 your Bow .. u shoot every day to get it sighted in ok great is it tuned or did u just take it out of your case and start shooting... what i do is i clean it off with a wash cloth to make sure there is no dirt or cobwebs on it
. then i wax the string and make sure every thing is thight on it because later on when shooting it if u hear a nose best bet it's your quiver or arrow and not a screw some wear...then check your cables and cams and string to make sure it's still shootable .and i bring a fishing tackle box with me with everything i need in case of a string breaks knocks sights rest arrows fleching u know why i don;t drive hour away to find out my bow is broke . and i have the block i take with me and put it in front of my truck lights 1 hour befor first light and make sure everything is up to par...

#2 your treestand .
Everyone wants to shoot a bigbuck now if that buck if comeing in and u stand up or move left or move right your stand might creekand that bucks runs off u will be pissed. so what i would do is put your stand about 2 feet off the ground and stand on it and move all around on it to see if it makes noise if there is anything more i hate it's a noisey stand.. and check your nuts and boults i replaced 3 boults on my api in 5 years that could be why thay went out of bues ... so check every thing out it .

and #3
your safty harness
about 200+ hunters die each year from falling out of there tree stands .. there is no reason why u should not be wearing one ... i ask everyone in this chat to please wear a harness spend a cuple extra bucks and buy one i don;t care if u have a portable stand or a climber or a home maid stand.... so guys pleasewear one and be safe .....

and
#4
close your eyes ..........it's opening day your in your stand smelling fresh air the soil the earth and then the fart u just left... it's the most beauful sights and smells to a bowhunter u move your head to the right hear a crack of a stick and u see a white flag your heart races and u say it's opening day babe GOOD LUCK THIS YEAR GUYS AND GET A BIG ONE !!!!!

That is the best part of hunting, isn't it Turkey Fan? My Dad has a Remington 760 Pump 30.06 that he has taken many deer with over the years in Pennsylvania. It has a Triangular fore grip on it with a basket weave pattern stamped into it. Nothing fancy but it has served him and me well over the years. Anyway, for the last few years I have made it a point to make it back to PA for the opening of Rifle season, and just like I remember it when I was a kid, everytime we fire a shot out of that gun, he always says, "Everyone knows when that 760 goes off. Nothing in the woods sounds like it." :-) Like you, I just smile when I hear him say it and I don't think he realizes he says it anymore. I will remember those few words until my dying days, and will probably say the same thing to my son when he starts using it.
