Bowhunting Kentucky

I will be in Kenton Co. Kentucky the week between xmas and new years. Looking for a place to bowhunt WMA or private land. I respect the land and only take matue deer. If you would like to hook up let me know. Inlaws live in Covington but I will go anywhere for a few day of good hunting.I have been bowhunting for most of my life, I am 46 and don't need someone to hold my hand just someone to point me in the right direction.Looking for a Kentucky bowhunter to have a few good hunts with.Help a Texas brother hunt the big woods of Kentucky.

Try looking at Land Between the Lakes. It is 100,000 acres on the Kentucky side and has some great bowhunting. Besides the nonresident lisence, all you need is a permit that cost $20. www.lbl.org You might also check the Peabody WMA. It is a little closer and I think there is about 60,000 acres there and some good hunting also. If I were you I would spend the first day knocking on doors around where you are staying, because around Covington is great or anywhere on the Ohio River basin.

Good Luck

LBL is about 6 hours from kenton County. I'm not familiar with Northern KY or I'd suggest something. Check out the Ky dept of fiah and game site [link]http://fw.ky.gov/navigation.asp?cid=154&NavPath=C151[/link]

Here's one in Kenton county:

43. MULLINS WMA (266 acres): Kenton Co., 1 mi. N. of Crittenden on Eads Rd. Level to rolling terrain, some steep hills, woods, grasslands. Mobility impaired access to permit holders in designated area. (859) 428-2262. Owned by Ky. Dept. Fish and Wildlife Resources.

There are some nice deer in the Taylorsville WMA. To find out about all the WMA places go to the KY Fish and Game web sites. They also will have phone numbers to call to get more information.

Check out East Fork State Park in Clermont County, Ohio. It's obviously not in Ky, but it's only about 30 minutes from Covington. You can likely find a little info on the ODNR web page. I've hunted there a little before. If you're interested send me an email and I'll give you directions to the areas I've hunted.

texastracker, you may want to take a look at Kleber and Rich WMA's in Owen County. Both are "bowhunting only"(except for quota hunts) and have produced some big bucks. Terrain is hilly and mostly stands of hardwoods with a few open fields. For more info, you can go to our DNR website at www.kyafield.com As for the drive, it'll probably take no more than and hour and a half or so to get there from Covington.
