RE: What flys better?
If they are properly tuned, they will fly the same. What is your KE?

RE: What flys better?
Speaking in very general terms a mechanical will most often shoot like a field point. There some very accurate fixed blade heads however. I have also tested some mechanicals that were not all that consistant. I suggest you visit my website, www.broadheadtests.com and read the Mech vs fixed page, along with the tuning sections. These will help you understand your choices better and what it takes to get good accurate broadhead flight.

fixed blades fly just as good as field points if your bow is tuned. If I can shot a bare shaft at 40 yards, why can't I shot a broadhead?

RE: What flys better?
My thunderhead 125 fly the same, but with a different impact point - 1 1/2 inch down and 2 to the right of fieldtips. My son's mechanicals impact point is similar to the field tips. Based on that alone, I guess mechanicals, although I don't like 'em.

RE: What flys better?
mechanicals will fly like a field point and that is good. I have had bad luck with mechanicals and won't shoot anything but fixed now. If the buck of a lifetime walks by and you release that arrow, I don't want to be hoping in the back of my mind if tha mechanical is going to open. I allready have a million thing going on right then who needs more. Good luck and good huntin'!

RE: What flys better?
I shoot rocket arrowheads [link]http://www.rocketaerohead.com/rocket-aeroheads.html[/link]. Been shooting them since they came out years ago. I have recovered every deer I have shot with them. In my experience however I have noticed they work much better with a broadside shot. Not as well quartering away (or likely quartering to).
A few of my buddies have gone to the new G5's and they love them. I love my rockets, I shoot an 85gr field tip and an 76 grain mini blaster 3 blade, I add a washer for 80 grains. They just plan fly exactly like my field tips out to 70 yards on the range (I'd never shoot an animal farther than 40). Whatever you shoot you need confidence in what you are shooting. Try a few different ones and see what works best for your set up. |
