Best Placement?
 

I went out last night to a field that I normaly hunt and I observed a doe and young un' work their way down a brush line went into a thick but visable patch of brush on the edge then back track through the field. Working back through the field they stayed within 15 yards of the edge until they crossed over to bed down on my edge. I sat on the opposite side of the field from where they came out in a ladder satnd which is 10ft high. I would use the stand to hunt them next saturday but the yardage is about 75 yards from the stand to the other side of the field where they were at. I've been hunting this doe since the end of last year and she's very cautious (makes me want her all the more). Last night she never came with in 50 yards of my stand. And she even seemed alterted when I moved the slightest bit. I plan to put a doghouse blind in the field on wednesday and hunt saturday night. My question is placement of the blind. The field is surrounded by thick thick thick brush which she just seems to appear from at dusk. Should I put the blind in the middle (half way from the treestand edge and the other edge) of the field. Or on the edge of the brush line. I don't want to mess this up because I know if I do she'll be out of there for the season. She winded me last year from 60 yards. Thats how I knew to see if she had returned. Any advice is appreciated.

Sounds like you need to place your stand according to the wind. I'd play it as safe as possible and just be patient. It'd be better to watch her walk by out of range than to spook her out of there.

It almost sounds like the other side of the field may be a stageing area. Wait till the wind is in your favor and slip in there with a climber. I'd get there early and wait for them to arrive. Play the wind, play the wind, play the wind. Happy hunting.

I know when I tried to hunt out of a blind, it difficult at best. The blind was a double bull and they immediately knew it didn't belong. Wherever you place it, hide it well and let it set a few days before hunting it. Especially true with a wise doe. They never forget.

I would sit higher up than 10 feet, maybe 15 or higher at least, so you can move more and so the deer have a less chance of winding you. I agree with mnbowhunter and adams, hunt the wind.
